You see Tom and Jerry trying kill each other. You see Plankton trying to steal Krabby Patties. You see Team Rocket trying to get Pikachu. You can't forget the Simsons who have violence + disrespect to elders, South Park you see kids using vulgar words openly, American Dad where you have such a perverted fish and a baby that wants world domination. People may be laughing at this but, I see this a big source of violence and disrespect.

Actually cartoons are no more violent or vulgar then they were 30 or 40 yrs ago....Bugs Bunny for example...there is TONS of violence in that and always has been....Cartoons like Betty Boop were risque....Mighty Mouse is another one that had violence in it....Nothing has changed really...As far as shows like Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy etc..they are NOT cartoons for kids and were never intended to be..they are for MATURE audiences...

yeah..I do agree with everything you said. Have you seen Happy tree Friends- they are very brutal too- they are like cartoon gore..But that's the reality of life- there are good and bad people and happenings in the world- but the cartoons are very wrong too- since they show kids that doing wrong is just fine.. I hope someone changes the script in these stories..

With a name like that, I wouldn't have expected violence...but nowadays one can hardly tell from the names. Sad, right?

Yes I think some cartoons are a bit more violent thats why they have implemented the ratings system icons at the top our TV screen so if we have children we can safely pick and choose the cartoons that are most age appropriate for them to watch. With that said, nothing on TV has more power to influence then parents. I watched a lot of cartoons over the years and through my childhood but I didnt go psycho and do anything crazy because of anything I saw on TV, and thats because of my parents strong influence in my growing up. Now dont get me wrong I do think some cartoons these days maybe a bit inappropriate for some kids thats why parents have to use parental guidance and be present, and aware of what there kids are watching we cant blame all bad behaviour by adults and kids on TV cartoons, video games, or music. just we have to take a little responsibility ourselves for a part of it.

This is true. It is hard to find a cartoon suitable for kids to watch nowadays. Especially my nephew who happens to be a "lil special". He can easily imitate whatever he sees on tv. He can memorize the lines or the jingle in one sitting. Play it to him once and the next time you play it, you'll be sure to hear him sing along and even say the dialogue or line right before the character says it. My brother and I are concerned about this. There was an incident when my nephew hit his cousin with his kiddie chair in the head. It might be just a plastic stool but the act is really not good. And he just ended up laughing. When we reprimanded him all he said was that he saw Donald Duck do it. And the he was just playing. So who are we gonna blame then? We blamed ourselves.. and all the grown up surrounding him but most of all, we blamed those cartoon makers for showing something bad and not justifying it. Now he thinks that whatever he sees on tv is the right away. So we started screening everything he watches.

Yes, I do think that cartoons have become too violent and vulgar. Have you ever watched "Happy Tree Friends"? For a second there, you might think the characters are so cute and sweet because they're actually cartoon animals. But then, when you start watching it, all they do is kill each other. It's very gory, you see blood spilling. It teaches kids many different ways to hurt someone. In my opinion, this kind of cartoon should not be watched by kids. I mean, what if they decide to follow them? What would happen? Yes, "South Park" is another show. They show cartoon characters that curse so much. Maybe that's why kids nowadays know so much curses, and they use it often. This show is a bad influence to them.

Some cartoons have seemed to get a little to violent, but there are still the kid appropriate ones so I believe it is okay.

Yes, there is violence in most of the cartoons....and that reflects on the kids too. Fortunately, I was never interested in these cartoons even as a child (including Tom and Jerry). I would watch cartoons...but my favourites were Betty Boop and the kind and I wasn't crazy about any of the cartoons anyways. But just a little correction...cartoons haven't BECOME violent and vulgar...most of them were so right from the beginning. With increased awareness, there are cartoons which aren't violent or vulgar...but the problem is that they are not very popular. I personally like the Pooh bear ones for very little children...and the Mickey Mouse Club House too. These are the popular ones...but there are more...like Blue's clues, Baby Looney Tunes, etc.

i watched some south park episodes this season and they have pushed the envelope further than they ever have. alot of the times its no longer funny anymore because of that reason.i think the creators of the show have just worn out their ways a great deal.

Actually cartoons are less violent then they use to be. Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes had lots of violence while today we have to "protect" our kids from such things. We have become over protective and worry that kids don't understand such things, that they can't make the difference between fiction and reality. What's really sad is that now Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, and even old Sesame Street aren't considered kid appropriate anymore. How are any of these three shows which were aimed at kids (Sesame Street had child psychologists working on it from the beginning) are now released with labels saying they aren't for kids? People are very very over sensitive now a days. As for your list, Team Rocket are the bad guys, they are never shown to be right, and always lose, bad guys are SUPPOSED to be well you know bad. The Simpsons is not a kids show, at best it's a family show, the difference being that there are themes and jokes that are aimed at kids, and others aimed at the adults, there were so many jokes I didn't get when I was a kid watching it that I get now years later. South Park and American Dad are both cartoons for adults, and labeled as such, it's the equivalent of complaining about why CSI or Criminal Minds has characters in episodes that are murderers, rapists, etc. I think cartoons are severely neutered, from the lowliest kid show on up. How are cartoons the big source? You only named two shows aimed at kids, the rest are aimed at adults (Simpsons is older kids/families/adults), if adults are that easily swayed then it's silly, if kids are that easily swayed, then their parents are unable to raise them. It's simply a matter of being able to take entertainment and be entertained and then go on about your life outside of it. It's how people have been raised for generations, I don't know why in the last few decades it's become an issue. If you look back in history, fairy tales are brutally violent, misogynist, and more, yet people read these to their kids and people have been turning out alright for centuries.

You have touched a verry fragile subject dear friend , when i used to be young aroun my eight years old , i remember that i was waiting with my heart openned to see Superman Cartoons , Mickey Mouse and Popey The Sailoor Man its true they were cartoons that i loved because i had Heroes Inside of them and they always defended the innoncent and represent the Truth , and a two years Later the Looney Toones Made theire apeareance , with Tom and Jerry , where even if there was violence i used to find it funny ( the truth is that i still watch Tom & Jerry ) , and when i had a look on Cartoon Network recently , i saw cartoons like Johny Bravo , Dexter Laboratoir and list cann go on , the fact is that these cartoons represents more then Violence , they teach Kids to lie and that lie is good and it may help you get out of trouble or they teach them to be superficials. I dont know what happenned but i really miss watching ood cartoons. Have a nice day dear friend.

I agree. Over the years cartoons have changed dramatically. They are 10 more violent and vulgar than the cartoons from the 70's and 80's. Nowadays you have to monitor the type of cartoons your children are watching because they are waaay to much!
