dying declaration

I have a very close friend who almost kill herself because of a guy who cheated her before their marriage. Thank God she was able to overcome that part of her life. After almost 2 years, the guy is coming back not to ask for marriage but to ask for forgiveness. She wanted to forgive and move on. But this guy is talking a lot about his feelings and how he was terribly in pain for everything that happened to him after their break up. My friend told me that the pain is coming back. Then we learned that the guy is suffering from a disease and just waiting for the Lord to get him. I told my friend that a man at a point of death would probably not lie. So I think there is no harm in believing on the guy's explanation. I want to know your thoughts. You think any words that will come out from a man knowing he's gonna die soon are all true? Will you believe a dying man's declaration?
