Both elements are vital in every living organisms' and most especially human's existence. Nothing can be disregarded as far as their importance is concerned. But I was just thinking, if you will be opted to choose just one of the two, which do you think is more important than the other?

I agree with this..A living thing could survive longer without water than without air..

I can't choose which one is more important. If someone told me I could only choose one, I know I would die no matter what I choose. Now, if I pick air, then in a few days I would die of dehydration. If I chose water instead, then I would die in a few minutes.
For me, there is no possible way to answer this question. What it comes down to is which would kill you faster, but if eventually you die then there's no point in choosing one. It's like asking "Which is more important, your heart or your brain? Your left lung or your right lung?" I think it's impossible to decide, we need one just as much as the other. If we chose one then we would die because we didn't have the other.

I would choose air out of the two, if I had to choose one. After all, I think if I was deprived of air, I would die a bit quicker than if I was deprived of water. Therefore, air although I know that before long, without water, it would cause me some great discomfort. Still, got to go with the one that extends my life a bit more.
After all, if I remember correctly, a person can go for a few days without water. Granted, it will be a tortured existence, but it is still possible. I believe it is only mere moments for going without air. So therefore, air is the more vital choice of the two. Not that either would be all that pleasant to lose, but still air should be kept above water.

Actually it was already asked during the beauty pageant of Ms. Earth here in the Philippines so fire is also included in the list. The grand winner was the one who answered the Air, unfortunately I forgot her concrete explanation regarding that but she has a point as I remember and I totally agree with it. Others are just a placer since they did not answer the question categorically as it requires. In my case of course I would choose air since you need to breathe. If you choose water how will you live without air nor breathing? Air is a top important to our lives and water can be a secondary.

according to the hindu scriptures, all the five elements evolved from SPACE. so, the origin of all the five being the same, ONE form can be converted into the OTHER.
Earth element, Water element, FIRE element, Air element, Space element. the order is reversed for the sake of convenience of reading.
but, your question is about choosing just one among AIR and WATER. First Space created Air; From Air, came FIRE; from FIRE came water, and from WATER came the earth.
So, i would choose AIR so that water can be evolved from air.
Goodluck.
