I have been meaning to try the ground turkey so i finally broke down & bought some. Thank heavens , i liked it because it is expensive. When i was browning it to try a new recipe i wasn't too kappy with the way it looked. It's so pale, lol. I thought it better to use it that way than make a burger out of it altho i have friends that eat turkey burgers all the time & say they are good. I love burgers but not sure about turkey ones. I made enchilladas & they were very good. Does anybody use it on a regular basis? Do u use alot of spices in it when u make burgers? Would u give me some hints on how u use it. I don't mean recipes because we are not supose to do recipes on here. Thanks in advance for your hints.

I have tried ground turkey, but mostly as a substitute for hamburger when making spaghetti and meat sauce. It is rather expensive and the only time I used it was when it was on sale. I would suggest that using it in meat sauce or when you normally use ground round would be a good idea. For me, it is too expensive to use instead of hamburger on a bun. I suppose using poultry spice would do, although I ma a bit more experimental and I would put in curry powder, cayenne powder, black pepper, and stuff like that to give it a bit more oomph.

I got four 2 person servings out of my almost one pound of ground turkey. Works rather well in spaghetti sauce. And my husband could not tell the difference.

That's good. The store where i shop had turkey in ilb. rolls for a $1.39. i didn't think that was too bad. I'll probably get a few meals off of that depending on how i fix it. Happy weekend to u.

I love turkey burgers and turkey any way at all. But my husband had turned off my children from eating turkey from when they were small. Therefore I only eat it when I am alone. Will not be around as am going on a retreat tomorrow. Take care and many blessings

Yes, the look of it is is kind of off putting! It looks gray, and a person keeps kind of waiting for it to look different. I haven't used ground turkey in a while. The last time I used it, I put taco seasoning in the meat, and used it for tacos. A healthy alternative, and with the taco seasoning, yummy.

It's funny that you say that ground turkey is expensive, because I think most people use it because it's generally cheaper than ground beef. It is certainly cheaper at my local market, so I use ground turkey fairly often. You can truly use ground turkey for pretty much anything ground beef would be good for. Enchiladas was a great idea- you can also try tacos or chili. I've used ground turkey for sloppy joes, mock stroganoff, meatballs, meatloaf, and burgers. The trick is in the seasonings. It's not naturally as flavorful as ground beef, so you have to learn how to add a lot of flavor to it. Here's my personal recipe for turkey burgers, which my husband and I both love and find quite satisfying: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1671781/this_is_turkey_burgers.html?cat=22 One tip I have for you is to be careful about the brand of ground turkey you buy. I prefer Jennie-O brand, because it has a coarser texture and a good flavor. However, my grocery store has stopped carrying this brand. Instead, they have a less expensive brand that is much too finely ground so it ends up mushy when you cook it, and when I checked the nutritional information I found that it actually has more fat and cholesterol in it than ground beef. So don't just assume that your ground turkey is healthier- check first!

Thanks for your response & all the good hints. I couldn't tell u what brand this was but i'll check out your brand. This was the only ground turkey they had in the meat counter.I live in a small town so u don't have alot of choices here like u probably do at your store. Hope u have a great weekend.

been using it a lot since son has been on this diet kick. hes not crazy about having a lot of hamburger or pork any more. funny thing. i made a meatloaf out of it once and we loved it. it was an experience. i think the reason why though is because it tasted just like a really savory stuffing. ive used it just like ground beef.

I love ground turkey because its healthier then the ground meat. I have used it for hamburgers, chili, meatloaf, tacos, stuffed green peppers and spaghetti sauce. I usually use either paprika or sazon to give it color.

HI Jo, My son updated my computer today and I am up and running again. When you get a chance check out the photos of my cakes that I was trying so hard to upload earlier this week. We are using a lot of the ground turkey. I have the small countertop grill and cook them on that, so they have the grilled flavor. I dressed them just like a hamburg and we really liked them. I haven't tried any 'dishes' with them but my daughter is into ALL turkey and has made meatloaf and everything with it and really likes it. She doesn't buy anything else. I only buy Jenni O or Honeysuckle White turkey. They have different fat%'s and that makes a difference in the price.

Good morning, I have already checked those beautiful cakes out & commented on your pictures. They are just beautiful. Does your daughter make them to sell. I had a good friend that made cakes & she was like your daughter , very talented. I will have to get more turkey when i go to the store. I liked it fine in the dish i made. I have a feeling i may like it better in dishes than burgers but i'm going to try the burgers.Hope u have a happy sat.

I shouldn't have said I wouldn't want to do cakes for a living because I did, sheet cakes and 10"rounds. But we didn't do the elabrate cakes for weddings and anniversaries. I worked the last 4&1/2 years in a bakery as a cake decorator. 1/2 of that I was full time. I made spagghetti tonight with ground turkey. It was very good and I could not tell that it was turkey. Thank you for your comment on the cakes.

I absolutely love ground turkey! I've used it in meat loaf instead of ground beef; made turkey meat balls for spaghetti, made lasagna with turkey, burgers (it is just as good, with a ton less fat)and even meat loaf. I don't use too much in the way of spices unless it's for the spaghetti or lasagna. I also don't salt it either as it seems to have a bunch of natural salt in it. I use it pretty much like I would use ground beef, the only difference is that it doesn't cook up brown (I was going to say it doesn't come out brown, but eventually it does come out brown. I stock up on the stuff when it is on sale. I can get it for around a dollar a pound and ground beef is over two dollars a pound. Of course it doesn't hurt that I like turkey anyhow.

Hi, ANTIQUELADY. I have cooked ground turkey when I lived at my aunt's house. She was the one that introduced me to this. She said that it was more healthier than the regular ground beef was. I think I cooked this with some spaghetti or Hamburger Helper before. I fried it just like I would with any ground beef. I added onions, salt and black pepper to it. I just cooked the usual with this type of beef. I did not make anything unique with this.

Years ago I tried ground turkey for the first time because back then it was cheaper than hamburger! I used it for my meals such as spaghetti, lasagna, Hamburger Helper type meals and chili. I have never tried it for burgers however. I would think that the turkey meat would be a bit too dry to make good burgers. I could be wrong and anyone feel free to correct me if I am.

Cool, I never bought ground turkey before. But I heard that the turkey meat is more healthier for you than the beef. I think because its more leaner than beef. We like to add some spices to our burger patties too. The spices we add are like salt, pepper and some seasoning salt.

I think if you squeeze down on the turkey meat and dump away the liquid it gives out you'll enjoy it better, that will take out all the additives they add to the ground turkey plus the x-cess fat. I eat ground turkey 2-4 times a month, i slice fresh tomato's and put the ground turkey on top the acid in the tom's make a great taste, a little cayenne pepper and im good to go.

Turkey is not my favorite meat. Turkey is imported and and any imported stuff are expensive in the supermarket here. I may need to taste it one day but don't know exactly how to cook it except for roasting.

I have always liked roasted turkey. I really don't think the ground turkey has that much taste just by itself. I think from all the responses i have gotten u can use the ground just like u would hamburger. Everythying in the grocery is expensive here & going up every time u go.. Thanks for your response.

Oh heavens, right now I am laughing at myself. Had an OB/GYN appt. and have just noticed that I put my blouse on inside out. brb lol I have tried ground turkey for tacos and sloppy joes and spaghetti sauce, also turkey burgers. I like it OK. I had substituted it for ground beef after R got gout and was told to avoid beef. I don't use a lot a spices on burgers, just a sprinkling of season salt.

Turkey can actually be a wonderful substitute. I was amazed at the chili I tried with a turkey substitute. As far as burgers go...I just do cheese and lettuce with tomato. Anything that uses hamburger meat can be safely substituted with turkey.

Hi Jo! I don't know if you will like this one. But I saute it with garlic and onion. After that I add small cubes of carrots, potatoes and red and green bell pepper. I also add green peas and raisins. Don't forget to put tomato sauce and finely ground pepper and salt to taste. If u want it spicy u can add some chili too. Hope u will like that recipe of mine. You can also use ground beef and pork if you wish. Take care Jo! Mwwah..
