KICKASS! Movie Review.

So what are everyone's thought's on "Kickass"? I couldn't decide whether it was trying to parody certain other superhero movies, (multiple references back to Spiderman), trying to add a Michael Cera-ish/awkward teenager element to it, (cuz let's face it, that's the new craze with a lot of movies), or simply expressing the theme that super-powers are not necessary for one to qualify as a superhero. Personally, I think they were trying to push the last one mostly, but ended up getting a melange of all their other influences mixed up until it looked more like someone took the genre, stuck it in a blender, and BOOM! Out came "Kickass". Thoughts?

I think, the kickass movie is a work of a great writer. The movie was unexpected but fun and it has a jumpy plot. Nice movie for the kids too.

"or simply expressing the theme that super-powers are not necessary for one to qualify as a superhero." You nailed it pretty good. The whole idea behind the frame of the story is that the main character is not some hapless victim. She is someone who takes things in to her hands rather than waiting for a "hero" to come along and save her. I saw a great comparrison between "kackass" and "Precious", I will try to paraphrase it but I couldnt begin to do the comarrison justice. I will post a link to the review at the end of response, it is a really good read and I highly recomend you see the way the reviewer draws a comparrison and lays out very nicely the main idea behind Kickass. Kickass is a highly libertarian oriented movie that demonstrates the power of the individual to over come incredble hard ship and a rough life and do so by their own wits and resources. Where as "Precious" seems more oriented to portaying the main character as a "victim" who must rely on state and local agencies and assistance, making the government the "hero" and pushing the whole statist ideology. Full review...and note, remove one "s" from the word @$$ in the link, aparently mylots word filter wont even allow it in a link. http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/lscott/2010/04/21/kick-asss-is-the-quintessential-libertarian-film/
