My first time to visit Subic happened three weeks ago. I went there to attend a convention. Though I was very busy, I got lucky to have explored some parts of it. I got interested with the historical spots in the place. I wanted to go to Ocean Adventure and see other attractions too but I didn't have time to do it. I said to myself that I will go back to Subic when I have time and bring my family with me.
Near the hotel where I stayed, I found this nice historical piece of art. I am talking about the Snanish gate. I always love history and admire things made in the past. I am sharing here a photo of the Spanish gate which I took during my visit.

As a child, I had my Christmas parties in Subic. My mother worked for the commanders of the Naval Supply Depot. The navy men were a huge lot. And my Santa Claus was a red giant with flowing white beard. But those were the days. Subic had become controversial since the Americans abandoned the place sometime before the Pinatubo eruption. The Koreans, I heard, had been staking their claim in these once pristine white sand beaches. Whatever is left of the Subic, I hope our government could restore to what it once had been.

I haven't heard of that issue probably because I live in southern Philippines. I'm wondering why the Koreans have claims on the land. What I only know is that the place was once a Naval Base of the US Army then later developed developed into an industrial/tourist destination after the US Army left.

There had been many fatalities in work-related accidents. The Koreans employers claim these are unavoidable accidents. But when it comes to safety measures that should have been provided in dangerous workload like ship building and the like, they are mum. I think it was last year when Sen. Estrada made an inspection of the facility. He was almost turned back by the Koreans!

Whenever I passed by Subic on the way to Zambales. I always remember, Duty Free and Gordon LOL. I love Subic, it's very organized. I already went to Ocean Adventure, the dolphin and sea lion show was entertaining, a must watch! They also have ZOOBIC Safari, which I haven't been to yet. I have never experiences their beach as most of the people I know who have been there say that it is rocky.

Before I went there, my friends told me that it's Gordon's place. I saw ZOOBIC Safari in the tv show "Trip na Trip". I think it's exciting. I can't wait to be there again for a real vacation. Happy mylotting:)

I frequented Subic fifteen years ago because the beaches were really good. During that time, it was like Boracay with fine white sand and you can rent a boat to go island hopping. Sadly, it became overrun with tourists and a lot of the small resorts were not maintained. The last time I went to Subic was ten years ago and I went sometime in August. I was disappointed to find that the powdery white sand that I was used to seeing was then grayish black and the shoreline was littered with plastic bags and debris. I'm not sure if they were able to clean the beaches, but I would love to come back and visit again.

That's so sad. I didn't get a chance to spend time in the beach nor check the beach during the day. The only part which I checked was the one near the old Admiral house coz I went there to take pictures. I'm not sure if this one resort that I heard was already there when you visited the place. It is called Grande Island Resort if I'm not mistaken. I got curious about the place so I might have to check that place out when my whole family is free. I found their office near the old admiral house. From there, you will have to ride on a boat provided by Grande island management to bring you to the resort. Hope you can visit the place again. Happy mylotting:)

Grande Island was just one of the islands that we would visit while island hopping. It was not a resort back then. I suggest you try it, their rates are reasonable and you can find their published rates online.

Subic is really a good tourist spot. This place is wonderful and have lots to offer.Ive been there many times since high school and now that I'm in college.Schools here love bringing students there.Actually I became hesitant to join the trips in our school because Ive been there many times. The last time that Ive been there was last February this 2010 it was an educational trip for our department and was required to join. But overall Subic is wonderful that's what I see because of my experience on going back there again and again to visit all the beautiful places there.

I went to Subic with my children during their field trip. What we enjoyed most was the dolphin show and whale watching in ocean adventure. It was such a memorable moment.
