Thank God the winter is over. We have been enjoying the warm weather for about a month, warm all day and cool in the morning boy do I love it. Been working in the yard and getting all kinds of flower beds cleaned out so we won't have to weed during the hotter months. Now with the warm weather brings on new things to worry about. The snakes, ticks, fleas, and last but not least the storms. We got the garden all planted and the flower beds almost all cleaned up. So what does the weather bring on for you since it got warm? Do you have to worry about fleas, ticks ,snakes and storms too?

We don't have to worry about anything during the summer as it's never hot enough in these parts! Take today for example; change of wind direction to a northerly. Watched our local soccer team and was FREEZING throughout. Totally sick of it now as it was looking like it was warming up last week.
Brrrr!
At least my flower bed is looking better; more greenery now as the spring was so late this year. During the last part of the weekend (including the Bank Holiday) I'm hoping to acquire some summer bulbs. I've never tried gardening before (it's all been done by my father-in-law) but I though I'd give it a go as Mum has "green fingers" so there's no reason why I can't have them too lol.
Glad it's warmed up where you are.

Hi Janey. Why not give gardening a go until I met my husband that I have now I had never done it either and I am getting better at it. It is so much fun to watch the flowers and plants turn into beautiful things when spring comes along. So sorry you are still having the effects of winter where you live. I thank God daily for the beautiful weather we are having. I am really proud of how God has made our yard so much better. It is so nice when we see the cars that pass our home stop and enjoy the beauty that God has made our yard into.

What I worry about most of all when the weather warms up is rattlesnakes. I give my dogs snake shots, but my newest one (I got her in December) hasn't gotten her shot yet. I've been meaning to take her in to town, but just keep forgetting. I hope I'm not sorry. The weather's much too dry here for many of the pests that bug you. We have scorpions, tarantulas, etc. None of them really bother me. You just scoot the tarantulas out the door and step on the scorpions :}

Hi Hofferp. I hope you get your dog the shot soon. The snakes will be coming out soon. I know what you mean about the scorpions and trantulas, I have lived there and in Arizona and they are bad there too. But like you said scoot the trantulas out the door and step on the scorpions. The rattle snakes keep away from but if you can't pick something up and kill the snake. I hate the snakes the worse. Thank God we don't see many on our propety. Thank God HE keeps them away from here.
Hi Mejofin and welcome to my lot. Why let them bother you? With the power of Jesus Christ on your side all you have to do is ask HIM for HIS protection from all evil. But always do it in Jesus name and the bad things won't bother you. Don't let anything frighten you when you have Christ protection.

I'm happy it's being summer weather here lately.I don't complain about being hot, because I was tired of being cold,so hot is better.I did my yard work,I mowed my lawn.Where I live I'm gonna try to keep my lawn mowed all the time, because there are ticks here.I have a puppy that I hope I won't find any on.I do have to check fore fleas, because my other dog got infested last summer. It was so hard to get rid of them.

The winters here are mild when compared to the western countries. The minimum here never goes below 10 degree centigrade. But as winter recedes summer arrives with a vengeance. The temperature starts with the low 30's and goes up to 43-44 degree centigrade in the peak summer.During this period there are no ticks, fleas and reptiles. Its only with the onset of the monsoon that the rains set in and most crawling and creepy insects come out.The ticks and fleas are in their plenty along with mosquitoes. The worst part of this warm weather or summer it is a sort of energy sapping heat.

Hi Picjim. When we get the heat that just drains us we go to the creek and play in the water. It is only about 5 miles from our house and a good drive on a dirt road with lots of shade trees. I hate snakes and have killed many of them. I am glad you don't have snakes there. Some are poisonous and can make you pretty sick if they bite you so when I see a snake I kill it. Some black snakes will eat other snakes so I leave them alone so they can eat the other snakes.

Hi Ghiepte. I hate the cold so this hot weather is nice. Been cold for too long this past winter. Hate having on pants love wearing shorts. And when it gets too hot we can always cool off by jumping into the creek. I love those days when we go to the creek.

I feel the same feeling as you. as the winter is over, spring is approaching. The weather bring on for me such lousy pests as cockrcroaches, flies and mosquitoes as it gets warmer and warmer.I certainly worry about them.Sometime I have to buy some pesticides to kill them.

Hi Calfbull and welcome to my lot. As far as the cockroaches don't keep any paper bags boxes or news papers in or around your home and they won't have anything to eat. You can also put down plain old baking soda all around your base boards and cabinets are and it will kill them. They love to eat it and they can't expel gas so they blow up and die. The mosquitoes you can get centennial candles and put them all over and the bugs don't like them. Screens on every window and door will keep the flies out of your home. Avon makes a lotion that you can put on yourself and it keeps the mosquitoes off you. No need for a lot of pesticides. Just what you need to put around your yard to keep the ticks and fleas out of your yard.

we had some really nice days at the end of March and got our food garden put in then.
We have 5 flower gardens and they are all pretty close now to being completely planted as well.
It was nice, then we hit a chilly spell with lots of wind and rain. Looks like today is going to be a beautiful day.
We have more of a problem with rabbits than anything else.

Hi Marsha. Don't you just love those days when you can get into the yard work? Boy I love it when it is nice enough to work in our yard. This is the seanson for us to have a lot of tornadoes so it isn't a good season to burn. We have a few rabbits but the moles and squirrels are worse then the rabbits. Today is another good day but today I don't have time for my yard We hve to work at moms place. She is putting her house on the market so we have to clean the yard up. Hope you have a great day.

Hi Smileonstar. I know what you mean I lived in LA for years and it was always nice. The last two weeks I lived in LA it rainned so bad that the streets was flooded though. I know how nice it is to be able to go to the beach. I don't miss LA though I am much happier here in Missouri.

Well I'm glad you are having nice weather because our side of the world is excepting snow tomorrow (Sunday). We've been having such nice weather lately up until the last two days. It's been raining since thursday and I have to admit that we did need rain to make everything nice and green as the earth was looking quite thirsty. Now I'm hearing that we are suppose to have some snow tomorrow which is soooo very disappointing to me.
have a nice day

Hi Nixxi. I am so sorry your having bad weather. I hate it when it gets so cold I have to wear pants. I do love the warmer months for many reasons but being able to get back in shorts is a big part of that. When winter comes and it is cold you have to stay in long pants and I hate having to have on so much clothing. Hope you have a short winter and get back into the warm weather soon.

Hi, free_man. Well pretty soon, the mosquitoes will be coming out. And this is what I am mostly afraid of. I got bitten last summer so bad, and I dread the day that I ever see this happening again. All of my kids got bitten too, especially my girls. I smelled the mosquitoes spray just the other day. It had a very strong smell. I think it only irritates the mosquitoes than it does on curing the problem. Last year, the gnats was so bad at my mother-in-law's home that she could not sit a piece of food on the table for a second, without the gnat smelling it. It was just so many of gnats around. It was crazy. I had to go into the room with the door closed just so that I could eat my food. I hope to never go through this again. I know when you are gardening, that is when the icky bugs like to come out and mess with your plants and flowers. I don't like pesky bugs at all.

Hi Cream if you get some citronella candles and put them all around the mosquitoes won't bother you as bad. There is a lotion that you can buy that they don't like either I can't remember what the name of it is but it comes from Avon. I am pretty lucky for some reasons bug don't bite me much. But they love my husband they eat him up and the dog gets it too. If you lived in your own home and had a yard they make something you can put in and around your yard and they don't like it either. As far as the nats go I think they don't like those candles either. But I would keep your mother in laws windows shut if they don't have screens. You need screen doors and windows to keep the bugs out of your home. I hate the bugs too but I am lucky I haven't ever had too many bugs bite me. I don't know if it is cause I am tanned or if it is cause I am native Indian. Or if it is just the grace of God that keeps them off me. But I thank God they don't like me.

Hi Free man
Yes I agree with you thank goodness the warmer weather is here!
We did the same thing you did I started weeding and cleaning up from the winter storm we had here on the east coast it did a lot of damage to a lot of counties here in my area, however I am just happy to get started in the yard just like you I wanted to do this so that I wouldn't have to be bothered with it in the hotter weather but it has been kinda hot here early this year its been in the 90's in early April and today its going to be 86 degrees , I'm sure glad we got all the work done in the yard I got my planting done and weeding , yard cleanup ect... now all I have to do is a bit of seeding I planted flowers in early April and they have already grown pretty nice . I don't have to deal with snakes but we do have storms and there is a tick season here but my cat is an indoor cat so he doesn't have to deal with ticks or fleas

Hi Cherry. We do have a tornado season and I hate it we live in a mobile we do have a house here but it needs a lot of work so we live in the mobile till we can get the money to fix the house enough to live in. But that won't be for some time since we live on a fixed income we do what we can when we have a little extra. I know what you mean about the storms on the east coast been watching the weather and it don't look good for your side of the of the world. It is nice when you can get in the yard early in the morning instead of late in the day. Good thing you have an indoor cat those ticks can be nasty things to bite.

yes,i also worry about fleas, ticks, snakes and storms too because it ruins everything and i really love to maintain a good garden so i work hard giving each and every care that it needs and at last a huge storm comes by and ruin the whole thing and the snakes are a great problem too, that you wont when you are going to be bitten by a snake so it makes the job more difficult but even though it is really fun to maintain a garden and i hope that you will also love gardening????

Hi Mejofin. I don't like the pest that comes with summer. I do love gardening I think it is cool how God can make a seed turn into a beautiful thing that can be eaten and seen by all. It is so nice to see the flowers coming out and the vegetables turning into food to be eaten. The snakes don't bother me when I see one I will just kill it I know as long as I believe in God I am safe from all evil. Hope your garden turns out to be beautiful and you have many great days to work in your yard.
