We all know that depression is a serious disease, not to be regarded with indifference. To our surprise depression affects men just as women. In US ,for example, every year about 6 milions mens are diagnosed with depression. Although mens tend to ask for help from a specialist later they have the same symptoms ,derived from major problems or complications of their health. General symptoms are chronic fatigue, sadness, difficulty in taking decisions, insomnia and even thoughts of suicide but what we don't know is that mens can show their depression by agitation and irritability. After all this which side you think is more affected by depression?Male or female?

no difference. it affects so many people. to try and confine it to a gender is plain stupid.

Depression is a sickness. It can affect both sexes. According to the website depression.com, it is the the woman who can be hit twice as likely as the male counterpart because of the hormonal change brought by menstraution, prenancy or menopause.

Something a lot of people don't realize is that depression can be genetic. There are many studies now related to it being genetic as well as an individual illness. The reason why I mention this is because I have seen this first hand. In my husbands family, not only does is mother suffer from it, but so do other members on her side of the family, both men and women. Now, my husband and his sister also have to deal with depression on a regular basis. I have seen all realms and it is very scary. In some cases men can actually find it harder to ask for help because of the levels of pride that run around inside of them. It actually took my husband falling from grace so to speak to get the help that he needed. He is still on a long recovery road and will probably be there most of his life, but by working together and both of us understanding his illness, he will be better off.

Just taking a stab at this, I think there is almost an equal amount for both genders. I battled with it some years back, but God through Christ got me out. As a result, I did a series of pages on depression at ... http://petemacinta.bravehost.com/dep.html God bless, Pastor P

Sadly, my uncle was a victim of depression. We as his family doesn't have the littlest idea that he's been keeping hardships and problems just within himself. He ended his life leaving us the biggest question of WHY? It could have been prevented if he had someone to listen to or to cheer him up all the time I think through that experience i can say that women are really a great handler when it comes to depression. Men tend to keep quiet and mind their business most of the time and us, women, we've got a lot of outlets and certainly we keep a best buddy that can be our confidant through whatever state of mind we have.

I can't really say. Since both can produce emotions then i'd say both are just equal in feeling depression. Men may look insensitive most of the time but we do feel emotions and therefore not exempt from depression.

Since I'm a girl and have dealt with depression (a lot), I'm inlcined to say that females are more affected by it. But then again, I'm not thouroughly educated on this issue. :o I just think, in general, more people have depression these days.

Depression is a desease which effects all human persons which emotions and problems. It doesn't matter if you are a man or woman. We all are sensitive to it and have our problems and pression. The probability to suffer depression between men and woman, I think, is the same as suffering by a broken leg, as we are all exposed to similar situation.
