Drawing Muhammad??

Would it challenge terrorists? Simply offend the whole Islamic culture? Or finally express that freedom of speech does exist for every topic? I recently came across a new Facebook group that is challenging terrorism. The argument is over an episode of SouthPark where the makers received death threats for showing the Prophet Muhammad in a bear costume, (although it was actually Santa Claus). It caused outrage and a cartoonist claimed that there should be a "Draw Muhammad Day" so that terrorists will finally be challenged and realize they cannot threaten to kill everyone. It started as a protest against terrorism, however, drawing the Prophet is offensive to the Islamic people. The counter argument is pretty simple, can one find a single religion that is not mocked daily? And since when should one religion be given the right of killing anyone who offends them? Thoughts?

Freedom is intoxicating. We revel in it. And there is no time when freedom is valued more highly than when it is being threatened. Thus, the reaction to threats became "Draw Muhammed Day". As a Christian, I have had to see such ridiculous things as the Pi$$ Christ, a supposed work of art which places a crucifix inside a bottle of urine. Well, that artist got his 15 minutes of fame, but it's no skin off my nose. If I believe in my God as a Supreme Deity, I can't believe that some mere human with a gimmicky approach to modern art can be any serious threat to Him. The idea that killing a mere human who is a mocker is going to somehow safeguard your particular god from embarrassment seems to me to be an admission that your particular god has some very human flaws. It's all bullying and it must be countered. If I had a more artistic hand, I might start drawing today, but I really couldn't be bothered. It's not important to me to mock anyone's religion. I just wish it wasn't important to Muslims to kill anyone who doesn't follow their religion.

Islam does not work like your religion. Islam provides a guidance to EVERYTHING in a Muslims life. When somebody breaks a law that Islam has set upon, its a duty of a Muslim community to enforce it. How harsh should the punishment be, depending on the crime is provided in the Holy Quran. Islam does not segregate spiritual and secular worlds. Islam has no defination of secular. Everything a Muslim does in his/her life is connected to his/her spiritual life. That is how we as Muslim see the Greatness of Allah. When we accept Islam as our religion, it is total submission. Of course as humans, Muslims will break laws. But Islam which is from Allah is always perfect all of the time.

It is just funny that no matter how much these terrorists are against the west they do not mock fun at Christianity or any other belief. How many of them tried drawing cartoons of Jesus? None. But for some reason Christian always target other people's religions in the name of free speech. Wait, I am making a mistake here. The cartoon drawing was started by the zionists who once called St.Mary a wh0re.

I think the group was started by an aetheist, but I don't know them personally. Not a Christian. And, sorry to burst your bubble here, but I have Muslim friends. And they do make Jesus-jokes, mock Christians, and other religions just as much as the rest of us. As with every culture, some are very respectful. Others, however, see any woman who shows her hair as a "loose woman" if you will. To be honest, I would rather the extremists tell a few Jesus-jokes instead of try to keep killing Christians, or anyone who doesn't believe in their religion. But that's not really the point. The point is where does the line between freedom of speech and offensive material exist? And especially in such a controversial and even dangerous subject? Lastly, should we be giving in to all these terrorist demands, as that is what they are: inciting an action by using terror as motivation.

How can you say that no one(terrorist) makes fun of Jesus or draw of his cartoon. I think you should open your eyes so that you will see things more. Christianity is one of the religion that people make most fun out of it. Because Jesus himself said about this. The thing that making fun of Christianity is not popular is because the Christians don't kill people because of making fun of Jesus. But who ever make fun of Mohammad are being demanded for the head so it is more popular. By the way, i think you do not get what the starter of this topic want to convey. Because he/she did not say that the terrorist are drawing cartoons of Mohammad. :)

Not really, the group was started by jewish extremists. The thing to consider is that it is forbidden to draw pictures of any Prophets in Islam. So the drawing of the cartoon did not only provoke the extremsist but also the normal Muslims. Also you need to be aware of the thing that those terrorists were the creations of Britain and America. There would have been no Muslim terrorists in the world only if no one invaded Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan. Once to explain the whole Middle Eastern conflict and the birth of terrorists, my history teacher caught all us students off guard by asking what if the British suddenly took over America and told our parents that half of their houses would be given to new British families to live. I remember all students said they would protest such invasion and would not allow anyone to take over America. I am glad that education system in America teaches people to think logically. But to answer your question about freedom of speech and South park, that episode was basically a mockery of the whole event that took place due to Danish newspaper. I would avoid the kind of freedom of speech that creates conflict. And according to America's law, the speech that seems disturbing to a specific group of people is considered as descrimination. If the group of people do not approach the media with any kind of complaint no one says anything against it. But how many people really watch tv here in America!!! Oh yes, I forgot that the show comes before The daily show for which people desperately wait. And in this desperation I do not think anyone watches South park with clear concentration.

It would offend many Muslims, I would imagine. However, that's the point of drawing Muhammad. Muslims are in the hot seat at the moment - they are members of a religion which contain crazy homicidal men and women who are willing to kill and be killed over a difference of opinion. Of course this isn't the only religion with this problem, but it is the one in the spot light right now. No drawing can harm Islam more than what extremist Muslims have already done, and to get outraged over someone drawing Muhammad proves the point many are trying to make. Some Muslims take their religion WAY too seriously, and this is an annoyance to much of the non-Muslim world. It would be in everyone's best interest to chill out when they're being mocked, and to speak out when someone does something stupid (like threatening to kill others) in retaliation to being mocked.

Then dont offend it. A Muslim defends Islam because any mockery will lessen Islams credibility. Its important that people know the truth through Islam. But to tell you the truth I sick and tired of how some Muslims take to violence.

By killing it would create a lot of curiousity, but not neccesarily everybody will say that its incorrect. In fact it brings great attention and quaintly some will see the truth. Let me explain logically then, a man has two choices, heaven and hell. He is about to follow the correct path when someone tells him, hey, thats not the way. Its this one.. As his skin and flesh melts in the hell fire, that someone that tells him hey go to that one, counts the money and proceeds to tell his mother, father and sister. Would that be reason enough to prevent these people? Islam is true to anyone who has read about Islam in its true source and is willing to ponder. Listen to your heart when the night is quiet and listen what it says to you.
