i got news to day from my mum, a friends son who's only 31 had a heart attack. he's 3.5 hrs away in hospital, in melbourne. he was driving the combine harvestor, heading rice. when it happened, his brother was there and reckonised the symptoms. most likely saving his life. he is a smoker, but is not in real bad shape.
has any one ever known anyone who's had something major like that happen at a young age?

My dad was also a smoker. He had his first heart attack in 1988 when he was only 37 years old. Other than the fact that he was a smoker, he really wasn't that high up on any of the other risk factors for having a heart attack. He was able to come out of that heart attack and did get to continue his life with much the same lifestyle as he had done before. However in 1995 he suffered from a second massive heart attack that ended up taking his life.

Wow! That's a lucky bloke. My Dad had a couple of smallish ones around about the age of fifty and he developed a stomach ulcer at the same time. He was operating his own small business, working long hours and trying to feed a family of 6. Mum worked too. The Doc advised him to go for walks so he did, every evening after dinner. I would go along to keep him company.
Dad is 97 in June and still going strong.

Hi weasel, that's terrible. I have read of young people having heart attacks, but don't know of any personally. It's sure should be a wake up call to us all.

I'm sorry to hear about your friend. I hope he gets better, Seems like all we hear around here is bad news.

I have personally not known of anyone so young to have a heart attack before. The smoking would not have helped, but perhaps they ate a lot of junk food too. The amount of chemicals in foods these days will put enormous strains on human organs so it is unfortunately more likely these days that more and more young people are going to have health issues such as this.

Yeah, he's definitely young to have a heart attack. I'm only twenty five but i'll take this as a wake up call. I'm a heavy smoker and i know that it can cause heart attacks. Thanks for the news.
