I have been having seriously bad restless nights with only a few hours sleep, and need some advice on how to get a good nights rest. I dont want to take any drugs or herbal remedies but it is getting to the stage that I am so lethargic everyday I have to try something. The problem has only stared over the last couple of weeks, hence the reason why I have not been on myLot a great deal. Just full of apathy. Nothing new or bad has happened in my life which is why I dont want to start taking prescription pills. I just want a good nights sleep.. Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted from all myLot users. Thanks

something that happened to me that similar to your situation somewhat. i was struggling at getting a good nights sleep just like yourself only getting a couple of hours of sleep a night while waking up and not really dosing off. i took a diet pill that contained a stimulant that seemed to start the problem of me having the sleeping problems. it went on for around 6 months. i had to stop working a regular job for a while because i couldn't keep it up getting such little sleep. i finally asked a doctor if he could prescribe me some medicine for sleep as i just wanted to have the feeling of being refreshed the next day which i had really missed since i couldn't concentrate well while i was up due to the lack of sleep and worse was i didn't feel healthy. the medicine he prescribed me was ambien. i was just what i needed to get some good sleep. i was never the type of person to want to jump in bed and go to sleep around the same time every night but taking the ambien made me look forward to going to sleep. it also made me hungry, lol. i didn't mind though since i was happy i was getting sleep that i had lacked for months. latter it got to the point to where i didn't need the ambien to sleep anymore. it still amazes me taking a diet pill which contained stimulants seemed to start the whole mess of me having sleeping problems for so many months. i never had such a problem like that before in my life until i took those diet pills. i'm glad my sleeping problems subsided as i was worried i was stuck having sleeping problems for the rest of my life.

one more thing i would like to say is if there is something out their that doesn't require going to the doctor thats a good sleep aid. its actually a supplement that can be bought online. its called phenibut. be careful if you do decide to take it. start out with small amounts and follow the directions. i take it at times just to relax better every once but it can also be used for sleep. if you take too much it can knock you out. i had vertigo from taking too much at first when i waked up after being asleep for around 24 hours. see what can happen when things are not carefully done, lol. still if your craving sleep like i am at times when not getting enough the phenibut can help give me that recovering ability i need to be more refreshed. i take it like every 2 weeks to get some extra recovery time for my body.

Oh I have gone through this many times because I can't shut my brain off. I have tried watching TV or reading. However I have to say since saying my prays for the past almost two months before going to sleep I have been able to sleep really good. I'm not praying to sleep I just say my prays and get into bed and fall asleep. I know not being able to sleep is the worse thing. In the beginning of the year I was going crazy due to lack of sleep. I have also heard that warm honey milk helps or a nice warm bath. I hope this helps you and Good luck to you.

A friend of mine told me to try drinking hot chocolate before going to bed. I always thought chocolate had alot of caffenine in it , just like coffee. I have stoppped drinking coffee after lunchtime as I think this just sets my mind buzzing, which cant help. Thanks for the response.

try and go do some effort during the day, or even in the evening. Like running for instance. If you do it in the morning avoid sleeping at noon. Even if you re full of apathy and your brain is not getting tired enough, beeing physically tired may help you sleep better. Try not to eat during the evening and have a warm tea before trying to sleep. Anyway avoid going to bed unless you actually think you re tired enough to fall asleep. It gets very annoying if you re lying in bed trying to fall asleep. Just stay up reading or watching tv while drinking something warm untill you think you re good to go to sleep. Don t keep your eyes on the clock :) Hope it helps, at least it s what i do when i want to sleep during the night even thou i don t mind when i sleep (day or night) as long as it s around 8 hours.

Clock watching is getting a very bad habit. I think I will need to remove it from the room.

...Hi HADDOWZ, Sometimes we are stressed and are not even aware of it, life is life. For women, hormonal changes can cause this. A few ideas, try to wear very loose clothing when you go to bed, the looser the better. A half-hour before bedtime, lie on you bed and try tocompletely relax. Think of the clouds, the smooth ocean water, nothingness, to calm your mind. Try to meditate. When you are in bed, start to count backwards from 500, I am told that this stimulates the part of the brain that makes you sleepy. If you do not have a digestive problem with milk, drink one or two glasses of warm milk just before you go to bed. This releases tryptaphanes (sp) which makes our bodies sleepy. You said you didn't want to try anything herbal, but Chamomile tea is very good for making one drowsy and relaxed for sleep. I hope some of this will help with your problem. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your good sensible advice. There has been alot of great suggestions from mylot users, alot of which include drinking warm milk, (which I dont have any problems with as I love milk). Before I go to bed I normally lay on bed and watch TV, I like to leave the TV on with the sound volume turned done very low through the night (I did this before having any sleep problems) and it never bothered me. I have tried going to bed without leaving the TV on but I just tend to lie in bed thinking about the day I have and the new day coming which just sets my mind racing. Maybe the TV is keeping my mind active even when I'm asleep, which I dont see as being very healthy. :(

...Hi there HADDOWZ, Thanks so much for your kindness. I am hopeful that by now something has worked for you. Please let me know. I keep my television on all night as well. It acts as a sleeping pill. "o) One more thing I will share with you which works for me, sometimes too well. A nice very warm bath, as warm as you can stand it. Be careful though, you don't want to go to sleep in the tub, as I once did. I believe that you will be sleeping again in no time. Take care, thanks again.

Hello, I would also suggest a glass of warm milk before going to sleep. It has worked for me. Also get some exercise during the day, it's going to help make you sleep soundly at night. And lastly, try to sleep early or set a bedtime and follow it consistently.

I would try to have a nice warm bath aswell as try to find time to relax early after the bath with a warm drink.I find that by being on the pc that tires me out and i get off to sleep easier at night rather than turning about all night in bed until i drop off to sleep.

Something that has always seemed to work for me, when I'm suffering from insomnia, is maybe an hour before I want to go to bed, I'll take a nice, long, hot bath. I just lay down, and relax. I try to think about some of the things that are stressing me out the most. But,the thing is,I don't try to solve those problems. I just try to become comfortable with the way my life is, at the moment. Even if things aren't how I'd like them to be. I sit in the bath until I'm feeling a little better, and then I get out and have a glass of warm milk. After that, I get right into bed, and I can usually get to sleep pretty quickly. Maybe it will help you, too.

I know what you mean. I am kinda missing the times that I could sleep for a very long time and a quality sleep. I use to have those a few weeks ago but I dont know what's happening to me these days. I want to sleep more and more but I also cant sleep like when I am taking a nap in the afternoon. I use to sleep for 2-3 hours in the afternoon but I cant have that anymore. I have more time its just that it seems that my body doesnt want it. Its crazy! I just want my old sleeping habits back.

Try exercising during the day which will help you relax. If you drink a lot of coffee, try and reduce the amount you drink especially during the afternoon. I also had the same problem last year and from what I experienced it was mostly because of my active brain during the night. I think a lot when I go to bed which also prevents me from sleeping. What I usually do when this happens is I usually make a note on my phone about the things I am thinking during that time and continue thinking about it in the morning. Meditating is also one good way to help you combat insomnia.

just change your habit... you maybe used to wake up late in the morning, don't do that anymore... wake up early so you will retire early in the evening... sleep when you feel sleepy... don't let it pass, because the urge may gone... drink a glass of milk or chocolate before going to bed. Then pray that you may have a goodnight sleep... then good morning will meet you...

Some god ways would be to get a new bed, go to bed earlier, go on a vacations if you are stressed, go and get a massage, or simply meditate a bit, or all of the above. but usually its just your bed. I had the same problem a while ago and i started eating healthier, got a new bed, and went to sleep earlier and that fixed my problem.
