how you get the internet? with a box that is connected to your computer using a usb or a network cable so for the different scenarios you can do this
if your computer is connected to the internet directly and the internet is distributed with a box and connected by a network cable, get a router most of them only need to plug the cable in the wan port and all the computers that connect to that router that you put between the internet box and your computer can distribute the internet to as many computer as 254
scenario 2
your computer is connected to the internet box with a usb cable (the one that is similar for the printer) the process for windows xp is
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306126
the process for windows vista and 7
www.windowsreference.com/windows-vista/step-by-step-internet-connection-sharing-ics-setup-in-vista
for linux
www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/sharing.htm
the requeriment are posted there too, you might only need an extra network card to share the internet to the others

first thing you must have is a router or hub to connect 2 or more pc together.for cheaper hardware it is advisable to pick 8port hub bec. it is much cheaper in price.2nd thing you must have a utp straight cable depending on how far the other computer is.
steps for connecting 2 computer
1.connect the utp cable of your modem/router from your isp directly to any port on the hub
2.connect the 2 utp cables on each computer directly to the hub
and thats it your done
hope this can help you..
