Injured murali out of world T20.Will this trouble SLK in match against Zimbabwe?

muralidharan - Sri Lanka suffered a major blow to their World Twenty20 campaign when veteran off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan was sidelined with a groin injury, officials said on Monday.

Muralitharan, 38, who is also the team's vice captain, was injured during Friday's opening match against New Zealand in Guyana, which Sri Lanka lost by two wickets.

"Clinical tests revealed a grade one strain of his right adductor muscle," team physiotherapist Tommy Simsek said in a statement released by Sri Lanka Cricket in Colombo.

"Murali has been advised to rest for two to three weeks."

Muralitharan, who is the most successful bowler in history with a record 792 Test and 512 one-day wickets, took two wickets for 25 runs against New Zealand.

His replacement will be announced soon by the selectors in Colombo, a Sri Lanka Cricket spokesman said.

Sri Lanka take on Zimbabwe in their last group B match in Guyana later on Monday, a game the 2009 World T20 runners-up must win to stay in the 12-nation tournament.

I think this will be shocking issue for the Srilankans. This is major blow for Slk in a do or die match. Zimbabwe is in great form.Murali who is the most successful bowler in Tests and ODIs is a major part of the Srilankan squad. He can be dangerous against teams like Zimbabwe. Will this trouble SLK in match against Zimbabwe?

i dont think that this will affect the lankan attack more. because lankans have some good partimers and backup spinning option. the more the srilankans will be worried will be the dilshan factor. if lankans want to win this cup then dilshan need to be performed well.

Yes that is a real point from Srilanka's view. Dilshan is in poor form. This is more dangerous problem for them.He is one such player if he plays well can take the match completely away from the opposition. Her is not in a good from in the IPL also.So I think they should drop him for a match or two and promote Jayasuriya up the order. also the conditions are suited for players like Dilshan the tracks are slow.

that's right bro...it is like indian team without sachin tendulkar...murali has a great economy rate in one days and also t20....so i m sure SL will miss him dearly. Murali was among the most economical bowlers in ipl and in t20 matches a good bowler is equal to two hard hitting batsmen.

you are very correct in telling "in t20 matches a good bowler is equal to 2 hard hitting batsmen". Murali has vast experience and the conditions in windies are favourable for the spinners.so though they have the back up spinners and part timers,I think they miss him.

Murali being out of the tournament is indeed a sad news for Sri Lankans. But I think Murali himself his not in top-class form at the moment. But since it's West Indian pitch, he will come-in handy as a regular spinner for Sri Lankans. I don't think his absence will affect Sri Lankan performance though, as they have other alternate spinners like Ajantha Mendis who are also a good spinners. I think almost team lack one or two key players at the moment like Sri Lanka being out of Murali, India with Sehwag, Australia with Bret Lee, etc...

Yes it did not eventually. Thanks to Mahela Jayawardene's knock that made the Zimbabwe completely out of the match.and the rain took it further away.
