What do you think of the weather this year?

This year really has been something with the weather that we've experienced.
Where I live we had one of the longest stretches of days without hitting 70 degrees that has ever happened in our state. Then, the opening quarter of the year was one of the dryest in history as well. However, the dryness didn't stay around and this past weekend alone we had over six inches of rain in our area.
The weather this year has really been phenomenal. What about where you live, have there been records broken or has everything been on an even keel?

When you are in that kind of heat it is very, very important to make sure that you are drinking plenty of fluids.

Wow! I would HATE to be in temperatures of 40C!! It has been 29C here in England this week, which is horrible. In the Summer, we get around 32C and that is too much for me, I am not a fan of the sun.

The weather.. it is changing every second , everyday when i watch TV or read news at the Internet , i red a lot of thing about earthquakes , inundation etc.In the past there were events like this but i think now they are stronger.. May be we can c hange the nature , but we don't do that .They are a lot of things that are more important than the nature..BUT WE MUST THINK about the weather :)

I do believe that human's have had some influence on the weather and to a certain extent I hope that we are able to learn from the rapid fluctuations in the weather so that we can stop doing things that are harming our natural environment so much.

It hasn't just been this year that has been different. The hill country actually experienced a 2 year drought. It wasn't until this past winter season that we finally got out of it. We have seen quite a bit of rain lately, so much so that huge sections of our county had to be closed down for more than 5 days. There were people actually trapped between flood zones. Something I have never witnessed before.
Our temperatures have been strange as well, one day it will be in the high 80s and the next in the 50s or 60s. Then of course dropping down into the 40s at night.
I was just looking at the weather reports for our area and it looks like we are only going to be getting hotter for the next week. In the 90s geez, I guess I will need to get our a/c up and running.

There would definitely be no question in my mind that if the temperature was going to be that high that I would need to have the air conditioner on. The temperature swings that you've described have been happening to us this year as well.

I have been living in New Mexico now three years and this is the first time that in the month of May we had hail coming down like crazy. This happened yesterday and we just couldn't believe it. For the past three days it has only been in the fortys and fiftys and at nighttime it has gone down to 33 degrees. I don't know what happening because we have already had 80 degree weather about a week in a half ago. Its crazy what is happening. I think that the weather patterns are going to change completely one day and the states that would normally get 4 seasons will change to Florida weather and then vice and versa.

I sure hope that you are wrong about having those kinds of shifts in the weather patterns. We live in Kentucky where I am happy that we have all four seasons. I couldn't imagine living in a tropical weather system year round when we don't have any oceans or beaches that we could regularly enjoy.

The weather has been nuts. It went from having to run the heaters middle of last week to having record high lows last night. The temperature swing for lows at night was some 40 degrees. We are now waiting for the line of thunderstorms to move through. I hope the rest of the summer isn't like yesterday, where the low was 72. That is just too hot at night.

That is a bit warm to be at night. I know I wouldn't be able to enjoy that, and if it is humid, that makes it that much worse. There is no way that you can be comfortable at all with that kind of temperature combined with humidity.

You can definitely say that again. I don't really think that there has been anything about this year's weather that could be considered to be normal.

i moved to south florida 12 years ago from north jersey and last year florida broke records for the cold in fact they closed airports down because of frost on the wings of the planes, i lost numerous palm tree's, fruit trees and shrubs to the frost. we even had ice on our windshields of the cars in the morning hours, not to mention fish dying because of the cold floating up on the beaches and waterways, and when it gets below 70 degrees i hibernate for the winter, brrrrr to cold for me. those jersey days of snow skiing and sledding are over.

When I was younger I really liked the cooler (cold) weather because it meant that I could enjoy things that I couldn't do during the rest of the year. However, now that I am older, I'm not a fan of that kind of weather at all.

In my place last year we have had the worst rainfall we have had that almost engulf the whole city in floods. After that summer came and we also experience extreme hot summer days that our water dried up and many power plants that relied on hydropower was not able to deliver power to us. So you can expect lots of power failures here and there. You can just imagine how we can cope with no power and the weather is just hot you cannot cool yourself in here.

Yeah we're supposed to deal only with two seasons here the dry and the wet season we have about 4 months of dry season and another 4 months of wet and 4 months of cold and dry season(considered as wet season). So we basically would experience this short but very dry season which is some what torture to many and many die of heat stroke because of these. During the wet season we brace ourselves with various diseases like cold, cough and worse flu and many other diseases that is brought by the rains and floods.

That would be awful to have to deal with. We've had power outages due to the weather in the past, but it is typically in the winter time which I think is actually easier to deal with even though we don't like it.

I think the weather's been screwy for the most part. Warm and sunny one day, cold and rainy the next. It can't seem to make up it's mind at all. Looks like Mother Nature is really messing with us this year. LOL It'll be interesting to see if the weather will ever steady out at all.
Happy mylotting!

I was actually starting to feel like it was never going to level off, but I think it finally has here. At least for the last week it has been like summer in our area. Hot and muggy. Perfect weather for the swimming pools that just opened over the weekend.

I don't really keep track of record weather.. and plus here in Central New York we have a saying, if you don't like the weather, wait a minute. And that is the truth! It snowed earlier last week, which is a little odd for April though when I was a kid I remember it snowing on my birthday, which happened to be Mother's Day that year.. mid-May. Then this weekend it was in the 80's.. had my kids running around in tank tops. Yesterday and today rained pretty well... now the sun is coming out again. Who knows.. it might snow again next week, that's how our weather is. Oh, and we usually get a few 70 degree days in mid February.. that's always nice! Basically around here there's no such thing as putting away winter coats or shorts, you leave them both out all year!

I honestly didn't know that there were other places in the country that had weather that changes as rapidly as our does. We are much the same as your weather in that it changes from hour to hour, day to day. We are in Kentucky and it did last snow in March but we've definitely been having some 40 degree temperature shifts on a fairly regular basis.

Yes, many records have been broken. I believe every where around the world. There was a freeze in Hawaii once and in Florida too. This strange weather has been happening since hurricane Katrina. I believe it has to do with the changing of the earth axis. Kind of like the movie 2012 but not as fast as it happen there. It falls in line with the predictions on the history channel. As well as prophecy in the Holy Scriptures.

This summer is I guess one of the hottest summers here in the PHilippines. It's really really hot and humid, and a lot of people are just finding ways of trying to stay cool when outside.. No record has been broken yet, but it sure closes in on the hottest ever temperature recorded in Philippine history ( though I'm not really sure of the exact temp )..
I really do hope that the temperature would cool down a little, cause it's quite uncomfortable and it's hard to concentrate on some things when you're sweating like crazy..

I don't see any change this year
but I am not much of observing weather since my work is mostly done at home
hubby did say that winter is getting less cold each year
his work requires travel so I believe it when he said that

In the past (prior to this past winter) I would have said that it was the case that the winters were getting less cold every year. However, this past winter was one of the coldest winters that there has been on record here. Now, since the spring has been here, I see that there have been a lot of wild swings in the temperature.

the weatherman said we had an elnino winter. it was very cold with some snow.the weather right now is some days are in the 80s. the other days are in the 60s. i keep changing clothes.i am wearing shorts, blankets, coats, jackets,. it is terrible and does a number on my fibromyalgia this constant change in the weather. i also have bad days when the extremes occur in the weather. when it is too hot, too cold, too damp.

dear dora,
last year we experienced the dry spell brought about by the global warming in february, i think. but now, dry spell started january.. i guess it was even the last part of december and have been here until a few days ago. it has stated to rain now after more than three months but summer is here so the hot weather has remained. we have experienced the drying up of rivers and lakes and the distribution of our electricity being produced by hydro plants have suffered. we are experiencing 3 hours of brownout daily.
i hope it doesnt get worse next year.

Dear dora
The weather is becoming unpredictable gradually, yesterday the temp in my city was 46.6 centigrade, it was highest in the state of orissa, i felt like roasted in oven, i think this is all due to our play with nature, this has to be stopped..
Thanks for sharing.
God bless you.
Cheers.

You are right, we do need to start treating the earth better than we've been doing or else things are just going to continue to get more predictable than they are today.

I live in the UK and our weather has been strange this year too. We had snow about 2 months ago and a lot of it too. Then this week it has been really hot and sunny, up to 29C which is 10C more than we expect to get in May! So it does seem rather weird!!

We've just now entered into a period of summerlike temperatures. Actually, we started putting up our swimming pool a couple days ago and then we went over there yesterday (it is in my mother's yard) to work in it and the water felt almost like bath water after only 24 hours.

In the Philippines, we are now experiencing the El NiƱo phenomenom. That is why this year's summer is really hot. Temperature right now is about 37 degrees celcius. We don't have rains since December 2009. Weather forecaster here predicts that rainy season will come late maybe 3rd week of June. In normal times, 3rd week of May is already rainy season in the Philippines.

Wow, that certainly is different from what you all typically have. If there was a way that I could send some of our rainy weather to you I would certainly do so. We've had more rain than I care to experience in the last few weeks.
