What Can We Do About The Sudden Increase In Our Meralco Bill?

Philippines

In the midst of the chaos and freaking out regarding the sudden increase in our Meralco bills, I was thinking of ways where we can save electricity so that we can lessen the bill next month. Imagine, there are only 3 persons in our household and our usual bill which is around P1200-P1400 increased to P2000! I was thinking of using candles a bit and lessening the number of hours of computer use. What else can we do, fellow pinoy mylotters, to lessen our energy use? Please share some ways and let us be united in doing this...

I guess these is really very traumatic, in my case I didn't enjoy my salary anymore because all of what was contained in my bill was exactly what earned in for the last two weeks. I am saddened that we are subjected to this kind of treatment. I really think the government must do something because it seems like we consumers are being subjected to a utility beyond our means already. We have to suffer brownouts and lack of water and in the midst of everything we are still billed more than double.

We also complaining about our electric bill too it seems we have aircon but we don't have. I don't use electric fan at night because it is cold at night and we go outside in the afternoon to lessen our electric consumption. Our bill increased by P600 it almost reached P2,000. We thought that it going to goes down because of rotating brownout but we are wrong instead it goes up.

Here's some electricity saving tips: 1. Turn off your refrigerator at night. 2. Minimize use of aircon. 3. Buy LED flashlights. I bought one for Php150.00. It's rechargeable and it's way safer than candles. If you're going to use them for room lighting, have the light facing the ceiling, if you have white painted ceiling the light will bounce and will illuminate the whole room. 4. Use laptop computers instead of desktop PCs. 5. Look for establishments you can hang-out like the food court and stay there till the mall closes. Hehe. Happy saving!

Every household this April increase, not also increase but almost double the amount that you usually use. I think even though that you lessen your usage it still get high bill. They have lots of charges that its not worth it.

i think we should conserve energy, we can't do anything because Meralco already explain everything and the only solution to lower our bill is to save energy, like ironing our dress during the morning when the temperature is cold and not that hot

Our usual bill is P1400 then it suddenly jumped to P3000. What? A sudden price change. All we can do is conserve energy by using the air conditioner only when you'll be sleeping at night and turn it off around 2 a.m. At that way you can't feel the heat. You also conserve energy.

Its such a shame, isn't it? I mean that we have to endure the effects of the circumstances our country is currently in right now. Drought, not enough electricity generated due to the El Nino, irresponsible government not being able to regulate the electric bill generation charges - we obviously are being robbed of our money and we can't do anything about it! I feel that its becoming really hopeless now, isn't it?! It's just such a painful thing to bear that you earn money and it always is not enough because at some point, the expenses are so much more than what we are earning... =(

I really don't know what I need to do. Our bill was around 2300 to 2900- this is the max that I am expecting since the school year has closed, and my sister is usually home. Plus, my other sister lost her job, and my father doesn't work only received pension (so I can't really ask him to pay the bill). So 3 of them are always home, me and my mom works. It is summer so I thought that it will strike up til 2900, but I WAS WRONG! It doubled, from our last bill of 2400, it was now at 4300. I just recently paid it, that's my share in the house! And I almost cry because we don't have an aircon. The main thing was only our water pump- which is run by electricity other than that, we did not add up any appliances in the house. I am still depressed up until now.

I think no matter how much we conserve energy, the more we feel uncomfortable and at the same time, the bills is still too high. Last March my electric bill is 2,300. I thought that it is too much for me so we tried conserving energy. I was glad that I saw my Kwh drop, from 250 to 220 and yet my bill still raised up from 2,300 to 2,700! It's really a pain in the pocket. They keep on raising the charges while wages doesn't move at all! -.-

You should also unplug all electrical appliances that are not being used. It would help save electricity. Even if an appliance is not being used, as long as it's plugged in, it still consumes electricity. Also, do not keep on turning on and off electrical appliances and lights. It would increase electricity consumption because every time you turn them on, the inflow of electricity is so great that switching appliances on could amount to leaving them turned on for hours. If you have to leave for only a while and you mean to come back soon to use the appliances again, don't turn them off anymore.

Focusing on passive ways to conserve energy is one great idea to keep our electric bills low, but we should think of active means like consolidating our efforts in demanding for a much cheaper energy especially during these times that we are fazed with an energy crisis. The higher bills that we consumers are experiencing right now is a result of the high-priced electricity supply that Meralco buys from Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) every time a Napocor power plant bogs down, to cover for the supply of that power plant that was not produced due to whatever reason. At WESM, electricity supply is available at peak and off-peak rates. Since Meralco purchases on peak hours most of the time, this results in a much higher generation cost for us, end-users.

i posted a discussion before, when i mentioned that our kilowatt usage was the same as last month but my total bill was 30% HIGHER. that was really depressing. we are only 3 in our household, 1 is even a 2yo girl. your bill is still lower than mine, perhaps because we use aircon at night? read on my related discussions in my profile page. so so sad for us who have to live with electricity rates that are considered to be one of the highest in the world. ack.

during the summer months electric bills are expected to increase because we need to keep ourselves cool. but i was not expecting the huge jump! in fact our electric consumption was just the same as last month but still cost a lot more. if you look at the meralco bill you will see items like generation charge, distribution charge, universal charge etc. what the heck are these???? we can do our part in trying to cut energy consumption at home but we remain powerless if they increase rates.

I think all meralco consumers are affected by the increase. Our electricity has almost doubled also. The best thing to do is to use less energy and spend more time outdoors. I guess we just have to accept the fact the electricity costs more in the summer. We'll just have to wait until our lakes and dams are filled up with water again to reduce the price of electricity.
