Election is almost near and its about six days left. They already delivered the ballot papers ti be used to their respective places and just yesterday they have tested the functionality of the machine and compared the result of the manual counting. Sad to say it has a discrepancy of the result. Based on the above situations occurred do you think that the first ever automated election on May 10 will be a successful one? Or we will go back to the manual version of counting?

Yeah there are lots of issues that are sprouting everywhere and with the election fast approaching this seems to be very alarming already. I think we just have to brace ourselves with what will happen this election. I think since this is the very first we can expect lots of problems with the machine. In time , I think this will be corrected and fixed. But for this election I cannot but see that there are a lot of things that will happen unknown to many of us.

sorry for the delayed response, i was on a vacation leave. anyway, i can say that the automated election is a successful one but there are some rumors and cases filed protesting the results of the election.
as an overall comment i could say that people in this country can accept defeat and they always find ways to make themselves win even if they are not the one.

There is always a first time for everything in this world. In every country that has automated election, they started may be similar to ours, with apprehensions and questions about it's effectivity. However, they are now enjoying a functional elections because they were not afraid to start. Let's focus our attention on the good things about the automated election process. There is no perfect election and automation but we can learn something from it and improve.

i personally have issues with it. i know it's about time we try automated elections but i was actually thinking it would have been little less compromising if we first try it not on national election where the highest political position is at stake. let's admit it, philippines is not technologically advanced as other nation. and some of our network securities are easily penetrated. we may have technology experts around but our resources are not enough to provide support for our smart people. so i am thinking this is too risky.
and i am thinking it's a lot of work for old voters who probably have sight issues already because they have to run down through the list to spot the names of their candidates and finally shading down that circle. for those who already know who they're voting it's a lot easier that they were just provided with space to write their candidates'names than search for them in the ballots. otherwise, of course there're lots of rooms for "ïni-mini-mayni-mo" (in case you are not sure who to vote yet) here so maybe for others the new system's better. hahahah...
nonetheless, i'm still hoping for the best for this year's election.

This is the first time for comelec to go automated so i would expect trouble come election day. I just hope that there are other options in place just in case the machines fail. I guess we just have to expect the worse and hope for the best come election day. This is a crucial step as far as philippine election is concerned. This will tell whether we have capable people in the comelec because everything will now be up to them.

automated version wont happen in most of the country. This is because normally people would like to see whether the election votes is counted correctly. if there are 2 parties which both of them do not trust themselves each others. What would you think if someone have added some vote and counting using automated? isnt it unfair right?
Manual version of counting are the best way to satisfied both parties by showing the vote to them while counting.

I have seen in the news yesterday, actually... the results are not being counted as it should be when they have tried testing the machine. Its weird that the voted mayors get "zero" votes as a result from the smartmatic machine. I think there are a lot of stress tests that should have been done.. but with just 6 days... and nationwide elections with almost 30 Million voters... i think there is a big possibility of an issue here. Let us just hope for the best that the election turns out well...

I earnestly pray that the upcoming election would truly be clean and a successful one. It is not right to think of the possible negative events that may happen, but I have a feeling, something not right would happen which worries me.
The introduction of the automated election is not so well understood by the billions of voters in the Philippines. Although there have been alot of positive feedbacks and countermeasures are all ready in case of any possible problem, but we never have all the control of events.
I wish things would go on smoothly and be able to come up with the honest, neat and fair results. Should there be any problems with the automatic election in May 10, switching to the manual version of counting would be difficult and time consuming already since we are not that prepared for that anymore since our focus has already been into the automated election way.
May the angels in heaven watch and protect the Philippines most especially on the May 2010 election.

I just saw the news about some discrepancies between the machine and manual tally being done in some places in Manila as a dry run. What more on the day of election? Not that i don't believe in Comelec's ability but i think it would be better if the whole country will test the machine first-a national dry run to determine all the flaws and the concerns that should be given solution. Moving the date of the election, i'm not against it just as long as we are totally ready.

Generally speaking, there will be no successful election to be happen here in the Philippines, either manual or automated. FOR NOBODY, NOT EVEN ONE WILL ACCEPT THAT THEY LOSE. All of the losers will claim that they have been cheated, and all the winners are the cheaters. All of these running for office whether locals or nationals will all tell their educational backgrounds, affiliations, accomplishments, plans, and even their contingency plans. Some of them were attacking their opponents for the position, sometimes physically but mostly verbally, and at the end of it all, they became no more competitors but worst enemy. BUT NONE OF THEM WILL SAY "MAY THE BEST MAN WIN. GOD HELP US ALL."
I believe that before we desire good things to be happen in our country, we need to deal first the root of it all...it is our HEART.
FOR THE HEART OF THE PROBLEM, IS THE PROBLEM OF THE HEART.
