Today is little Roxy's birthday, her third birthday.
Over the past few months especially, I have noticed some real changes in her.
I am wondering for other dog owners, if you have noted any noticeable differences in your dogs behavior when they make the big leap from two years old to their official "now a dog" age of three?
My baby is no longer a puppy.
Approximately six months ago, Roxy's ears stopped smelling like puppy. Mmm, puppy. So sweet.
Within the past year the hair on the tip of her ears has gotten really long. When I first got her, there was just short regular puppy fuzz ear hair.
See the pic below for the before pic and the (last Two) now picture. Her ear hairs have really grown. Beautifully!
The long black wisps I have been told will never grow back should they ever be cut.
Yorkies typically get the tips of their ear hair trimmed when they are clipped.
Roxy will not be clipped so will always enjoy those long beautiful wispy hairs.
Since getting Roxy in August 2008, she has learned a lot. Obedience, basic good behavior and some tricks.
having been somewhat neglected and a bit abused before that, she has gained much confidence too. A joy to see. I think she is just grateful to have a forever loving home now, that she somehow knows that she can trust to be able to comfortably settle into and accounts, partially, for her very good behavior.
I have noticed that when we walk in the forest, off leash she follows me but tends to wander only slightly, enough to show her ability to be independent.
The other day I swear she was playing hide-n-go-seek. We were walking along nicely but when I turned to see her beside me, at least close behind me, she wasn't there. Going back a few steps, she was standing behind a tree, close to the stump, looking up at me. When I seen here I said hey you playing hide-n-go-seek and she proceeded to run around the tree back onto the trail we were following.
When she has to stay home, I have found that she now just goes and lays down on the mat in our bedroom, right near the front door. No longer does she follow me around, right up to when I am going out the door as if to say she is coming too.
Overtime she is understanding and tolerating, but without satisfaction when an outing can not include her. Otherwise she comes everywhere with me.
What has been most noticeable in the past few months, is when we are walking she will suddenly stop, head in air and sniffing. Chest out and head still up with her nose in the air, off she goes, as if she is tracking a scent of who knows. Could be another dog or a squirrel, a bird, raccoon or some other forest dweller. It is a sight to see in my otherwise little baby girl.
It is times such as those that I realize she is becoming a dog and no longer just a curious puppy.
Are there noticeable changes that you can recall seeing in your dog as they make the transition from puppy to dog?
Care to share?

Awww she is so cute and adorable EvrWonder. I can only answer your question about how my puppies have grown from 6 weeks to 23 weeks.
Ciara who has the border collie coat, I now have to trim her fur before clipping her nails. Penny, other than just getting big, like her sister, is the only physical change.
Personality they have come a long way. When we first brought them home we had to constantly watch them, because they chewed on everything, including a throw rug I had to put up. I can put that rug down now, except they play so wildly, it'd only take one time for them to move it out of place.
I did bring my rocking chair out recently that I had to hide in another room. It has strings coming down from the cushion and that was another favorite thing to chew on.
So what they chew on has diminished, yet they are bigger and like I said, when they play, watch out..Nothing can go onto any table that may break. Even though they are girls, I feel like I have 2 boys that wrestle, that is what it's like now.

Hi! Thanks you for the comment and for your response. She is pretty cute alright. Hard to not spoil her but since I worked all day yesterday, we officially celebrated her birthday and are still doing so.
I got Roxy at 15mnths (unfortunately. Wish I had her from a small pup) I had to trim her paw hair also at that point.
What are the physical changes in Penny?
Sounds like they are still really playful, nice. So is Roxy, every chance she gets, she is up for a play session but I think she rather play with humans than by herself, naturally. I only have the one dog so it is up to me pretty much to entertain her, lol. It is fun. I love to play with her too.
Chewing can be a bit of a nuisance. Luckily for me Roxy doesn't chew except on her toys and if any piece of paper is left around, it is at her disposal. She will shred it. This makes for a very clever present opener too. She is very good at it.
That is so awesome that Penny and Ciara have each other to play with. Nice. It is fun to watch, isn't it?
Do you have any photos?

Penny's hair has grown a little, but she takes after the beagle side, it hasn't changed much. Other than that, the only other change is she has gotten bigger. My avatar picture is a photo of the two of them debating whether or not they can bring this branch inside. This picture was taken about 2-3 months ago..
I also have posted up recent pictures in posts from a week and a half ago when I puppy sat for my daughters dog and neighbor dog.

My little dog just turned two and I haven't seen any change in her so far. I was worried when Ii had her spayed because she has so much personality and I have always heard it takes away from it. Not with her so far. I can tell that she understands alot more now and she is not so much the curious puppy anymore though.

Hi Jen; My Roxy just turned three on May 3rd.
I was worried about the same thing when I got my puppy spayed but she turned out just fine. That annoying sniffing and peeing on everything ever second or so did cease, thankfully!
She is still as perky and playful as ever though.
I know what you mean about being less curious. Roxy exhibits much more confidence now as well.
If I take her to a new walk place, her curiosity will be peaked and she will want to explore for what seems like forever. Often times she just wants to stay out on the walk then to head back home afterward.
Thank you for stopping by! Enjoy!

Our dog is a hound and is five years old, she has just found her true hound voice. She is the first hound we have had so I don't know if this is normal or not. But we do see the changes each year in her behavior. Enjoy.

Thank you for your response savy. I know a girl who has a hound X and he is almost one. He does the howl thing already. I think he is cross with lab.. not entirely sure as my memory is temporarily failing me :o.
I bet your dog is beautiful. Do you have any photos handy?
I forgot to mention in my post but Roxy is also eating much less now that she is bigger, stronger and perhaps older now. Sometimes she will skip breakfast.
I notice this when I am working several days in a row. She does get upset when I leave her so I hope that isn't it. Days when I am home, she still sometimes skips breakfast.
Thanks again for responding.
