Why are women paid less than men?

Even to this day, where feminism exists as they struggle for equality for women, they still do not have equal pay to men. Why is it that for women who do the same job as a man is paid less?? This baffles me so. Is the ego of man, so high that in fact they cannot conceive of the idea of earning less than a woman? Men, would you cringe at the thought of your significant other earning more than you, assuming they don't already.
Women do have the opportunity that they did not have before, as many of them are being educated and pursuing careers, instead of just being a housewife. Of course, there is nothing wrong with being a housewife and taking care of the family. Has their been true progressive movement? Are women and men finally equal??
What do you think about this phenomenon???

hell0 there!
well, this is really very interesting
because I have never heard that women actually
are less paid than men are, or at least in my
country, but if this is true, then i guess,
that it is some kind of discrimination which
must be forgotten!

no, of course I don't mean ignored
I mean that people should pay others
fro what they have done, and not for what
they are, because it is a discrimination
I guess and I really don't like it at all!

What do you mean that discrimination should be forgotten? Do you mean it should be done away with? When you say "forgotten" you don't mean ignored do you? I hope that problems are dealt with and everyone gets their fair pay according to their skill and educational background. I'm glad that your country everyone gets equal wages. =)

Men and women are getting similar pay where i live. There is some variation in salary dependent upon qualifications, but this applies to both men and women. As a hiring manager, I can say not everyone gets the same pay for the same job, unless they have the same schooling, work experience, training, and certification, gender does not come into the picture at all.

I'm glad that Texans give fair share to both sexes, as long as they do the same job and share the same background. That's good that there is gender bias.

Yes, it is true that there are many different statistics and it is hard to analyze them. Statistics can also be misleading and someone can manipulate them and make something seem more pressing or less pressing.

I can't answer this, because I've never experienced this. What I've seen is usually women are paid more for doing less work, and are offered better positions just because they are women. Even if they are not qualified for the position.

That is interesting. It is the opposite in your experience. I do not like racial or even sexist favoritism. It is unfair when someone less talented than you gets the position, just because they are considered the minority or for some other reason. The best man/woman for the job should get the job.

That's cool. Where do you live in the U.S.? I heard that there is still heavy sexist discrimination when it comes to job pay in some places in the United States. Maybe it depends on what state one lives in.

well in what we know as the occidental society is changing but you know that is not a rule in other countries specially in Asia. this all come from the long time of the fact that women were unable to access to the knowledge. but now that women are getting similar conditions they can prepare better. but is always common to see all this retrograde way of thinking from time to time.
you can imagine that are people like that for example there is people here in germany who want to vote to put bad the berlin wall.
insane

Everyone always has their own different ways of thinking, some more weird and strange than others, like you mentioned rebuilding the Berlin Wall. I hope that their will one day be fairness and equality throughout the world. It might take many more generations for this and peace to be realized but I hope that it comes into fruition one day.
