were you ever scared or afraid of anything when you were a small kid?
i had this terrible fear of the dark. i always thought that there was a monster or something that is hiding in the closet, and just outside my window...waiting for the lights to turn off and then ounce on me! i was so afraid that i had like 5 night lights on every night and i could never fall asleep if it was too dark in my room. and if i woke up in the middle of the night and it was all dark, i'll run to my parents room and sleep with them in their bed.
what's the thing that scared you the most when you were a kid? for the myLotters who are parents, how do you assure your child that everything is ok?
my mum used to give me a water pistol and told me to shoot the bad monsters if they come out. usually i just shoot my brother and get scolded for getting him all wet :)
let's walk down memory lane and share our experiences. i'm sure it will be enlightening to those who are thinking of having kids...like i'm thinking of right now :)
thanks & happy myLotting !

Aww.. Walking down memory lane? I am in! This post is so cute.lol.
Well, I was kinda, sorta, afraid of the dark too. OK OK, I was afraid of the dark, I confess. I had to have the night-lamp on. Else, I would not be able to sleep. The funny thing is my elder sister slept in the same room as me. But I need that night-lamp even then.

Sweetie, the only thing that scared the living hell out of me as a child was a closed bedroom door. For some stupid reason, you can turn of the lights, but don't you dare close my door. And the worst part of it, till today, i cannot sleep with a closed door. So stupid. TATA.

you must have had 'boogey-man phobia', just like i did. my lights had to be on, the room door must be open, and the hallway lights must be on. once, my parents tried to turn off everything but leave the door open. i swear that as soon as the lights went out, i started hearing weird noises from anywhere. so darn creepy those days..
little secret between us ya...i still have my 'cookie monster' night light which i still use :)

you can't get to strangle the boogie man anymore now. i heard that he retired when the boogie discos closed in the early 80s. hehehe...
the night is funky looking, but it is my favorite-est thing in the whole wide world now. you can throw away my toys, you can throw away my old clothes, you can even throw away my tv...but don't no one ever touch my cookie monster night lamp..hehe :)

I was never really scared of much when I was a kid. I certainly didn't have the normal fears such as being scared of the dark or stuff like that. The only thing I was really scared of was snakes.

Hi, mario_stevens. When I was a teenager I used to be so scared to sleep in my bedroom. And I would leave the lights and the T.V. on. My grandmother would come in the room and she would turn the lights and or the T.V. off while I was asleep. I used to be scared of the dark so bad when I was at home. I used to wake up in the middle of the night, hearing noises. Sometimes I would hear the floors creaking like someone was walking. But everyone was asleep. It really was scary. I have even left my radio on playing country music. This made me feel relieved to know that I could hear some noise while I was sleeping. I can't sleep in the room by myself without any noise. If my kids was scared, I would tell my son that we are awake in the other room and that nothing was going to bother him. I would tell him that we are still awake and that we won't be going to sleep anytime soon. This will make him go to sleep. If my daughter is scared to lay down in the bed by herself, I will lay down in the bed next to her until she falls asleep. With my son, I will leave his yellow led light on so that he can go to sleep. Having a bright light that is shining really helps when someone is afraid.

I wasn't really afraid of windows or closets. I was just afraid of the dark. Like when the lights went off these monsters just appeared out of nowhere, and when you turned them on, they disappeared (like cockroaches). I would try to hide under my covers. But not just pull the covers over me. I really tried to hide myself. I would position myself with my pillow and blanket to make it look like there was no one there, just a messy bed. And I was a very small kid so it was easy for me to curl up into a really tiny ball.

i know exactly what you mean!
why is it when we were kids, and we pull up the blanket to cover our heads we would automatically assume that no monster can get to us? it's very funny, but i'm sure that if you ask most of your friends they would say that same thing too..!
hehe...must be 'survival' thing built into little kids :)

I was afraid of the dark when I was little because I saw things that weren't there. Actually, when I got older I realized it was because of my poor eyesight that things looked distorted in the dark.

hehe...when i was 7 and had to get my first pair of glasses, my eye doctor joked about 'boy, now you can see all the ghosts in your room clearly'...
my mom said that i went home crying and didn't want to sleep for 2 whole days after that :)

My parents did not go through scaring us when it is needed for us to sleep. It was my grandparents who done the work and say those lines like if we will not be sleeping in a later time a monster will comes out from the roof, or a dark lady will get us all and abduct to eat. I only got imagination everytime I watched scary films that time. I hate dark rooms, it makes me drowned and it makes me imagine that someone will get me. So when I was young, at home, there was always a light open whenever we were sleeping. The big problem comes when we experienced sudden loss of electricity.

when I was a kid, I'm not afraid of the dark or monsters. because my parents always taught me not to fear the dark and always let me know that there are no monsters or demons. I fear when a child is the Police. When I was a kid, I always hide when I saw the police. I am afraid of the police, because I saw the police bring a criminal. And I feel afraid that if taken by the police. because I often quarrel with my brother.

I used to be scared of Monster being in my closet or under the bed. And I would be scared of the monsters coming out to attack me when it was dark in my bedroom. So my parents put up a night light so that there would be light in the room. That would make me less scared and as I gotten older then the fear would decrease and I wouldn't need the night light anymore.

I wasn't afraid of much growing up. Other than being stomped on by my horse. But that was a reality at almost any point. My mom and dad were always yelling at me not to walk behind the horse because he was going to kick/stomp on me. So I guess I wasn't as afraid of the horse as I was of my mom and dad yelling at me about the horse. Shoot now that I think about it I used to walk under their bellies and play at their hooves until my mom would start freaking out.

Hi mario_stevens!
Have you watched the movie "Monster's Inc."?
When i was still young, i used to cover my feet with blanket or my pillow, i don't know i just feel something will always grab my feet when i'm asleep, those kind of weird stuff. I remember seeing that on a film but i don't know what movie, i forgot

In my childhood i mostly fear about the Dogs and i won't go out if there is any street dogs. If my relative grow any dog then i could not go to their home . Then when i was 8 year old my neighbor bought a Dog. So i always closed my house door. Then i start to play with this dog and that fear was gone. But, still i have some fear about street dog

Fear of the dark is part of our genes that past by our ancestor. In the early part of humanity when our ancestor is prey to the top predators we really tend to be prudent especially during at night when our vision is very poor.
When I was a little kid, sure I was afraid of the dark, afraid of the unknown, we're afraid because we're not sure what's in there.
Although I tried convincing my kids that there's nothing there in the dark but still I always had a hard time. Since these trait of ours is already part of our DNA.
