SEED.com is part of the AOL family so they pay a little bit better than most content mills.
I was with them for a couple of months. They do ask for a short writing sample as well as links of your work before being accepted into program. Once accepted, you can write on spec and they pay via PayPal. They are supposed to have a revenue option for article not chosen for upfront pay but like Demand, this was never presented to me. Out of four submissions total, I had one published (which paid $30, btw) and three rejected. You also give up rights to use published articles elsewhere.
They are in a beta phase so it may or may not work for you in the long run. When I chose to terminate, they were very friendly about it and encouraged me to return once the bugs have been worked out.
