There is no punishment required....Its between the couple and really isnt anyone else damn biz really...and for that matter its up to us individually and as couples to decide what adultery really is..to define it..I'm in an open marriage...but I'm not cheating on my husband...if we were to be with others behind each others back THEN its adultery in our eyes but since we have an agreement its not..HOWEVER to others it may be considered as such..which ultimately is fine, outsiders are free to their own opinions - it just so happens that those opinions are irrelivent to us

Hi, nice comments, but we are talking about punishment based on religion, even though it is your opinion but must based on faith/religion.
cheers :)

For me they should be in jail, I don't want too harsh punishment for this. Just stay in Jail forever will do.

I am a Christian and Jesus, when faced with this situation told the woman to "go and sin no more". If the adulterers are preapared to take this stance then I believe then can be forgiven, if not then this is a sin and their punishemnt will be eternal hell (eventually). But they also face punishemnt here on earth, being dragged to courts, claims of damages from spouses, broken families etc..

Hi dralon, nice comment, so according to you based on your faith, christian faith, the sinneth (of adulterers) must have a punishment, in here and hereafter, is that right? please correct me if I'm misinterpretation.

In view of Islam, adultery is a criminal act (jarimah) that categorize hudud punishment. That is a kind of punishment for sinners, which is the act of Allah, so that no one had the right to forgive disobedience, either by the authorities or parties related to it. perpetrators of adultery, both men and women should be punished as much as 100 times the whip. However, if the perpetrator had been muhson adultery (never married), as the provisions of the hadith of the Prophet, then the stoning punishment is applied.

For punishment of adulterers? Let's leave that to our government. We have laws for that in place. Then when punished, if the sinners repent, sure Heaven will forgive them. If not, then they will have double punishment. Punishment from the government, then punishment from God later on. For now, as we live here in this world, let's respect the decision of our governments, and our legal courts.

It is inappropriate for adultery to be punished by the religion, it is handled between the offender and offended, and the appropriate thing for the offended to do is leave the offender if they are unwilling to forgive.
