Odd Sandwich Fillings

May 5, 2010 7:43am CST
What are the odd things people put in sandwiches? We were discussing this at home last week, for example, I like nothing better than cheddar cheese turkey and BBQ sauce in a sandwich. My father in law likes just sugar (gross!). I remember eating banana and sugar sandwiches as a child. The worst one I have ever heard was from my dad ; bread and dripping (the fat let behind after roasting a joint of meat). The very notion of this turns my stomach. So I'm wondering, what are some of your strangest culinary concoctions? I look forward to experimenting with some tasty new ideas this lunch time! x

Bread and dripping with loads of salt was DIVINE!!! but your arteries worst friend. I had an uncle who ate sugar butties, and my husband claims he used to love 'connie onnie' butties ( condensed milk!!) I am a lot more conservative with my tastes, I love cheese and onion or cheese and marmite. Oh and my son loves fish fingers and tomato sauce butties!!! (I presume you know that a 'buttie' is a sandwich!!)

I've not heard on connie onnie sarnies before! Fish finger and tomato sauce sounds amazing! Another one I've heard of is my sister in law, who has mashed potato! This is one I'm going to try, perhaps with the fish finger and tomato sauce? Thanks for the response, although I'm still not sure bread and dripping is for me! x

Lol, aww well I'm sure anything in moderation is okay. Out of curiosity, what was your favourite dripping? Or did it taste the same no matter what meat it came from? x

Hi, melovecookie. I think that bubblegum inside of a sandwich is something different. And candy too! I have never tried this, but this is a thought that I came up with.
