Hello, everybody. I am a new comer and I am a Chinese college student. Recently I find out that my oral English is so poor that I lose several job opportunities. This bothers me very much these days . I find that I feel very strange when I try to speak English and I cannot express myself very clearly when I use English. And now the problem is that I dare not speak English. Do you have any good suggestions?

Hello pindar. I know that this message is old but maybe you can tell us what happen with your spoken English. My opinion is that you want to speak fluently English you need to use more your ears and fewer your eyes. So, try to listen a lot English. When you read something try to read with voice. If you don't know to pronounce a new word you have 2 choises. You can dont't care about it to keep the fluency and to guess the pronunciation, then after reading you can look for pronunciation or, second one, you can stop to look for correct pronunciation. I prefer the first one. All the time I don't care to much about pronunciation but I notice the new word. Then I try to listen to them in a good English dictionary. If you are there maybe will said to us how do you improved oral English until now. Thank you. Cata.

Hi.. try to stay here at mylot everyday. Befriend the members from all over the world. Take an English Class. There are many ways how to learn English. The only thing you need is determination. By the way, I'm also from non-English country so I know what you feel.

Try and think in english. Before actually saying something you think of it and try and think in english. Even if you re not going to say anything, if you just do your everyday things, try and do the usual thinking in english. A discussions partner would help alot but i don t think you have one:) If time allows you try getting into games that use voice devices (like team speak or something) and get involved there speaking and listening to spoken english), at least this worked for me, i played Wow for a long period and this was my only way of keeping english close:) Hope some of these tips help you :)

There are cds on simple English available which you could play regularly till you grasp the basics and then go for slightly higher levels. This will definitely help you. you could also listen to bbc or cnn and also speak in English specially with those who have a good grasp of the language. You should also be ready to accept correction as this is the most important element for anyone to improve.
