Does This Take Your Breath Away?

I dunno, probably not because i am not a good photographer nor an artist of any sort. But if you were really to see this majestic volcano personally, i am pretty sure you will be awed by its presence. For one, it's perfect (almost) cone shape body that is has been known for will stand out the most. Despite its eruption late last year (mini ones, where lave and smoke comes out but not the one you see in movies), it still maintained its cone-shape.
For you fellow Filipinos here in mylot, you might already recognize this as Mayon Volcano in Bicol. Just took this photo last week. Anyways, hope you can see the "punchline" as Ken Rockwell terms it (of course, i don't know if it is really the term used or if i understood it correctly)?

Beautiful, your like a pro, haha. I've seen part of this not whole during my last visit last 1999 but didn't get the chance to take a photo. My parents came from Bicol but they move to manila. I only visit Bicol for like 5 times only, the last one was 1999, that was so long ago. I've been to Cagsawa, and I really like the story of Cagsawa Ruins, creepy and mysterious.

oh yeah, i heard that too. Especially the one about the 2006 story. I think it was typhoon Milenyo? not sure though. They said that everything around the place was destroyed by the lahar that came from the flood, but as you said, mysteriously and creepily, only the insides of the ruins where left in tact - meaning, everything from within the fence was not reached by the lahar, while everything else around was covered.

I think that happens a long time ago cause I went there last 1999. I read while the mass in ongoing the Mayon Vulcano erupted and all the people in the mass was covered with lava and stones. And the only part of the church survive was the bell. So imagine how high was the damage part.

Hi Aylim,
I am a Bikolana and we are proud of our beautiful Mayon Volcano spot. It's just two hours bus ride away from our place. I am happy that you’re able to come and visit the place and even had a souvenir picture of the volcano. I am just curious about the “punchline” that you mentioned in your discussion? Any clue? Thanks.
This is a good shot my friend!

First, i am not sure if i called it right, anyways, if you could see the image in a larger view, there is someone at the bottom wearing orange i think - doing this thing called zip-line. I took the photo up at Lingnon Hill at Legaspi. And jsut to add, I am also from Bicol, my mother actually. Also around 2 hour ride from our place - Gubat.

If there's one thing i like about Bicol it would probably be Mayon. It's the one thing that don't fail to amaze me whenever i pass by legazpi on my way to sorsogon. I make sure that i travel early so there's still sunlight so i can see mayon clearly. You did a great shot of it. Hopefully i can see again in a week or two.

Yes, it's a really great view. The most popular place to see it is in the Cagsawa Ruins, but in my opinion, it is better to view the majestic volcano atop the Lingnon Hill. Just a few more minutes away from the Ruins. That is where i got this photo from.

Though the composition itself is not good, I still like it since you captured the nice dramatic sky and those clouds around it seem so beautiful. I've been there when I was young and I would love to go back. Mayon Volcano is such a wonderful creation of God specially with it's perfect cone :)

Based on the cone shape, the Mayon Volcano has not blown it's top for some time now? We have our fair share of volcanoes here in Washington state, but none posess 'cones'. Their tops are more like craters; sunken pits... which are slowly rebuilding themselves to 'hiccup' lava and spew rocks all over the region again!
Your photo is quite majestic. What kind of camera did you use to snap the photo? Was it with traditional film or digital? Do you travel a lot or take photos professionally?

It's a Nikon D90 i got as a present. If course, it's already digital.
Unfortunately, i don't travel a lot but would love to someday. Taking photos is just a hobby of mine which, from time to time, take pictures of whatever catches my attention. And try to relieve and capture that moment/thing/or whatever it was that caught me and to be able to show it to people and hopefully catch their attention too.
About the volcano, yeah, it has been said that this was one of the few (or was it only) that has this shape. Hopefully, this remain like this since it is one of the best tourist spot here in the country.

Hiya aylim,
Very impressive just looking at the photo there. I hope she never decides to erupt though maybe just have the odd hiccup here and there but never anything else. Have just heard that Spanish Flights and English Flights have been hit by the Volcano erupting again. Don´t know if it´s a new one or the same one yet. This has been quite a disruptive day today. She is beautiful to look at though Aylim. We have Volcanoes in Olot Girona, and Asturias and also in the Canary Islands and Tenerife which are Islands outside the mainland.
Take care now.
