I think that professional athletes should be paid based on how much money the sport they are in generates for the owners, etc. Men's sports seem to be more popular to the public and therefore generate more income with ticket sales, etc, so for now, the men should be paid more. Honestly, though, I think that professional athletes are overpaid all around. Millions of dollars to play baseball? That seems crazy.

Who(do you mean) will pay? The public, of course, ultimately! The payment for seeing the action comes from the paying public, via the TV media, ultimately. Unfortunately, female athletics don't have a history on par with male athletes. So there are ultimately fewer people who watch female athletics. In other words, female athletics has much lesser popularity than does male athletics. So they are paid less. The second point is that males are definitely superior in physical terms. (I can hear females calling me 'chauvinist pig!') Maybe in future, they will develop greater popularity and will get paid on par with male athletes.
