Do you know that a watermelon is actually a vegetable and not a fruit? It is related to the pumpkin, cucumber and the squash.
The first recorded watermelon harvest was in Egypt and it took place nearly 5000 years ago. This depicted in the Egyptian hieroglyphics that is found in ancient buildings. As a matter of fact, watermelons were also placed in the tombs of the kings to help them nourish in the after life.

You are right! Watermelon belong to the same family with squash and cucumber but I think I have to disagree with you when you said it is a vegetable. The reason for that is because all vegetables are fruits of a certain. Its just that they are classified as vegetables and classified as fruits.

Sorry, but watermelon is actually not a vegetable. By the technical definition, a fruit is the part of the plant which contains the seeds. Since watermelon contains the seeds of the plant, it is in fact a fruit- and by that definition, pumpkins, cucumbers, and squash are also fruits. Watermelon is also classified as a fruit by culinary definitions. What is surprising is that watermelon is actually a very large berry (or "pepo," as botanists call it).
Still, the information about watermelons' use in ancient Egypt is quite interesting.
