These are simple forms of treatment which have worked for me.Use a thin pillow with a round pillow underneath to support the neck. Here we get a round pillow at the orthopedic hospital which supports the neck.I f these do not work please consult a doctor he might prescribe pain killers and other medication. If its very severe here the doctors prescribe a collar to support the neck. Here the doctors prescribe neck exercises after the pain and reeling sensation subsides which help relieve the symptoms of spondylosis.

I'm not a doctor but from searching the internet the ff. appeared:
Symptoms from cervical spondylosis usually stabilize or get better with simple, conservative therapy, including:
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs)
Narcotic medicine or muscle relaxants
Physical therapy to learn exercises to do at home
Cortisone injections to specific areas of the spine
Various other medications to help with chronic pain, including phenytoin, carbamazepine, or tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline
If the pain does not respond to these measures, or there is a loss of movement or feeling, surgery is considered. Surgery is done to relieve the pressure on the nerves or the spinal cord.

I am so sorry to hear that your father suffers from Cervical Spondylosis. I can understand how much it must be hurting him. About a month ago I got a pain in my neck, which got so bad, that I had to go to an Orthopedic surgeon. He then said that it could be Cervical Spondylosis, but there were also chances that it was a muscular strain related pain. He gave me some pills for 10 days and I tell you, my pain just vanished. I am perfect now. It turned out, I did not have Cervical Spondylosis.
Has your dad gone for physiotherapy and what does the doctor say? An orthopedic surgeon will give the best advice. Hot water bags help at times. Does he use a flat pillow?
