Is your house state of the art? Or is it functional, like mine?

My daughters really frown at me. Our house is full of boxes - shoe box, cellphone box, forex box, etc. They want me to get rid of the boxes and install built-in shelves like the ones in the magazines. And our ancient television unit is perched on an old computer table. Why ever, my daughters ask, can't I buy a proper console for the entertainment unit? Why, they ask, does our house always look shabby? Why can't it be state of the art, like their friends homes? I think about it sometimes, but I couldn't function on such a house. I like my home comfortable and functional. My home is my abode. It is not for display purposes. What about you?

My home is very livable but i do like everything in an organized state. I have way too much 'stuff' but i love it all but it is very organized, no boxes or clutter, everything in it's place.

Hi Eileenleyva, Well, I would not call my home a state of the art for sure. I do have old stuff. I did paint my table, end tables and coffee table to look better. I do have an old tv that is on an old entertainment stand. My home is cute and functional. I like it to look nice even if no one else sees it.

Hi eileenleyva! Certainly house is built or purchased keeping in view many factors and most important one is the available accomodation, depending upon the size of family. Of course, managed things give a tidy look. Being the administrator, its our duty to manage the things around but within available means firstly. Afterwards there comes question of putting all items at relevant place or rack etc. Well, here we prefer to build premises after going through architect and consultant and preferably try to sturucture the racks and almirahs whereever some proper place is found. Thats it. Thanks!

Your home can be functional using up to date items for such things as your TV. As for boxes you can use plastic colorful container instead. They are pretty and sturdy. As for shelves they have really nice ones that are not expensive and can make things look nice and neat. You screw them into the closet wall. I brought a tv stand for 40 bucks and its not fancy by any means but its better then a computer table. It really wouldn't take alot to fix your abode to your daughters liking. It really doesn't have to be fancy or expensive. Just better then boxes for everything. Good luck

Hiya lelin, Have had to hear a lot of that here too but a House is what you want it to be. If you like it like that then that´s the way it should be. Your daughters will understand that someday not now but later on they will. Mine still complain but not as much as before thank goodness.

It's clutter only if you do not know where your things are and if they do not have any use at all. May I ask what the boxes are for? I have boxes also for the magazines that I store. I do not even know why since I can't read them again anyway! My mother is very insistent that we maintain a clean and orderly house. Plus, Ondoy took away most of the clutter, and so now we have a lot of elbow room in the house. Everything has a place and every thing is in its place. But when we lived with my grandparents, we had a lot of things that we did not need, especially free or promo items like the glasses where instant coffee were packed We had rows and rows of them! With my mother its different because if something does not have a use now, she will have it thrown away. I rather like a functional house. What good is a state-of-the-art house if I can't find anything anyway?

This is the way I see it. Sure you can buy a new entertainment, have built in shelves, and redo everything to make the house look more organize BUT clutter will occur again, things will be misplaced anyway, and unless your entertaining the richest and most successful person on earth it doesn't matter what your house looks like. A house is not a house until you make it one, and it's only a house when it's what you want it to be... If your happy then that's all that matters right.
