choosing a number from 1 - 10 ; testing my theory

I have this thoery that, if asked to choose a number from 1 - 10, the most frequently picked number will be, the number I would choose. Obviously, I'm not going to tell you what that is because you'd all choose a different one to prove me wrong
So, when you're asked to pick one, do you usually choose the same number or make random choices? If you usually choose the same one, which is it? - and, do you have a particular reason for choosing it?
Please note - I haven't started this thread a some sort of game. These are serious questions to test my theory.
Most times, I would choose the same number. The number doesnt have any significance in terms of birthdate/house number etc. its just the number I feel drawn to.

Also in my oppinion, the unaided human mind is remarkably bad at randomness and there is the simple fact that people virtually always choose 7 when choosing a number between 1-10. Usually we tend to choose numbers that are close to n/2 (where n=10) usually bigger than n/2. 7 is a symbolic number in most cultures, 3 also an arhetypal one.
In this context, I would try to choose a number that isn't as close to n/2 as possible, or is not stereotyped as having a symbolic value for me. That number would be 8. (Allow me to smile in a subtle way).

I almost always pick the same number too. It's usually 7. It's not in the middle and it's sort of a "lucky"number. I can't even remember why I started picking it, but that's my choice! I want to know how your theory turns out!

7 :) without a doubt. I don't know either why, but somehow i always choose that if the number 14 is not included in the choices. It's also not in any way near my birthdate or any other number. It's just that i like it and prefer it more than the others. Probably because it looks good when written out. :D

One's own associations can make for such a varied range, don't you think? For example, I just find 7, 9, & 4 the prettiest Arabic digits. But the ideogram for 3 in Chinese looks like claw marks, which not only don't appeal to me aesthetically, but actually make me shiver a bit, uneasy! And 6 makes me feel happy when I see it in Chinese, but I have bad associations with the Arabic version, so I try to avoid it! It's not obsessive, but it is in the very back of my mind when I deal with these numbers.
Odd, ne?

If I had to choose a number between 1 and 10...my number would be 7. I would probably pick that number each time because it's my favorite number.

I usually choose 6. I don't know why. Maybe because it's half of 12 and 12 is my lucky number. when asked to choose a number from 1-20 I always choose 12. Neither 6 nor 12 have any significance in my life either. I've just always been drawn to those two numbers.

No, I hadn't seen it.... I was asleep when you posted it and have only just switched the computer back on. I noticed that 7 was a number I'd usually choose, not intentionally & that number & 77 always seemed to be taken early on in sweepstakes and competitions where people had the choice of numbers. Now that I think about it more, I seem to recall one of my maths teachers from long, long ago mentioning it in terms of probability. there is essentially, only a 1:10 chance of it being picked but in reality, factoring human subconscious superstition/tradition etc its a higher proportion.

I'd deliberately attempt to be random, as I'm a stubborn, contrary sort, preferring to be different for the sake of it. I might pick any of the 10 digits, & it might or might not be the same one in different tests. I've read number theorists who've done studies, & as I recall, they found the majority of subjects choose 3, secondly 5, & others 9. Still others choose numbers significant to them, for whatever reason.
The majority do seem to be drawn consistently to the same number each time, but knowing that, I trained myself to create a disconnect between such "pulls," & forcing myself to ignore them.
To do this, I first still my mind, emptying it (a yoga trick), & disconnect my influence & associations from the task at hand. I imagine a wheel with the numbers 1-10 around it, spin it, & see where it lands. It might land on 3,5, or 9 (though, personally, I'm "drawn" to 8) & if it does, I choose it, but wherever it goes, that's what I choose. It's as if someone else chose it, not I.
This allows me to satisfy my curiosity, because I'd want to see what would happen. I realize this is still influenced by my brain somehow, but I don't think it matters that much. Again, I only say 8 when my wheel lands there after I've achieved my mental state, that "disconnect" I mentioned.
So! Here! I'll do as I've said. (spinning...:o) I pick...ah: 6.
Let's see how that affects your theory! I look forward to the results of this interesting experiment, & the explanation of your theory, & what it was that interested you enough to do this!
When will you announce the results?

I usually would pick an even number. For some reason, I prefer even to odd. My favorite would probably be 6. There is no significance in it, I just like it.

Hiya Wizzy,
Above all numbers I choose 21 and 30 and 18. I like the number 7 too but that´s already been written about. These are the numbers I usually keep coming up with I don´t why either.
I´m not very mathematical either but they add up just right for me in some way.

Hiya Wizzy,
Well number three is also my Birth Number supposed to be anyway and I like seven but the two were already mentioned so that´s why I mentioned the higher numbers. I know that they are higher than ten but multiplied 10 x 3 ect. 7 x 3 another ect. have a great weekend.

I like the unexpected so every time I choose different numbers and my choice never depends on anything I just pick up a number and say it...

I was starting to get childishly disappointed when people are not choosing my favorite number until page 3 of which Chaozu answered 2. Number is 2 is also my favorite number.
When a liquid that is supposed to get into your esophagus (where food/water gets in) gets into your larynx (where air pass through) you will cough so hard. I don't know the term for that but anyway, in the Philippines, there's a myth that when that happens to someone, he/she will ask a number and he/she will mentally associate that number to the corresponding letters of the alphabet and then think of anyone he/she knows whose name starts with that letter that could have remembered him/her. I always choose 2 for them and they will start thinking of somebody whose name starts with the letter B.
As far as I know, 2 is my favorite number because of the idea of Duality but I'm an advocate of Singularity.
Ahh, shucks.. Forget what I'm talking about. LOL.

Thats interesting about the food/drink going "down the wrong way" as we usually say. I am surprised that the person is in a fit state to ask anyone to choose a number. When that happens to me, I'm usually choking and trying to stop a blood vessel bursting! The last thing on my mind would be to try to speak. When they've thought of the person, what happens next??
Thank you for that.

Is it so that they wonder if they have upset this person and the choking is some form of 'punishment'? I suppose, those thoughts might take your mind off the fact that you were choking??? If our ear(s) get very warm, its supposed to mean someone is talking about us. Sometimes, if my mum has been talking about me, she will ask, "Were your ears burning?"

They will just ask themselves what could be the reason why they were remembered by that person. The myth there is that when the food/drink going "down the wrong way" happens, someone is thinking them. It's pretty silly, really. LOL.
