Why can't mix breeds be issued registration papers?

I just wonder why mix breeds can't get registration papers unlike the pure breed? does that mean they can't participate in dog shows either? In my own opinion they are just as good but sometimes they are being looked down or snubbed compared to their purebereed cousins. I wish they would allow mix breeds to be registered.

Pound puppies need homes also... I have found that plain multi breed dogs are much smarter than their pure cousins. I have friends that cannot teach their pure bred dogs to even not wet in the house no matter how hard they try. Whereas I have taught my cocker/basset/? mix to come to let me take him out within two weeks.

wow manley this bit of info is really quite interesting. sadly though my pup still wets the house and poops all over. Today I just had it so I bought baby diapes and put on holes for her tail. Just want to get some rest on the poop and pee thingy. I am envious that your dog is potty trained.

Get you a schedule and stick with it, say every hour take him out and when he goes reward him with a ply thing or a pat on the head and say good doggie or whatever you name him.
Get a good pet odor eliminator and spray the spot he went in the house every time so that he has no spot to go back to.

Well I am friends with a dog breeder and this is how it works. If you have two different pure breds and both are registered and you breed them then you can get papers. You have to have papers on both dogs first though. Then if they have puppies you can get papers on the puppies regardless of them being mix breed. She breeds toy poodles and chihuahua all the time. They make some cute puppies. Not to mention i commonly see it at the flea market. Mix breeding is becoming quite popular.

that's great news but I guess that's just applicable in your country. In mine it's not. if it's a mix breed regardless if both parents have papers the organization would not give you any registration. I can only register my pet in the local vet to secure travel documents other than that there is none.

Mix breeds can not be registered because there is no History to set standards by.
They are not being looked down on by most people. Only the stubborn few, and breeders that take the time to show and keep the standard of their breeds intack for generations to come.
How do you think all the new breeds came in effect in the last 30 or so years. People start a new breed by breeding new dogs and keeping the samme things reg. breeders do. Breed only the best and stongest. Keep breeding the same 2 breeds
example Golden Retriever/ Standard Poodle. Take best of that litter. Breed another
strong Golden Retriever/ Standard Poodle. Take the best of that litter making sure size / color/ looks/ eyes / ears/ paws so on are the same. Keep doing that untill you get 5 to 6 or 7 or more. Take those puppies that are the best of the litters
making sure the puppies have most trates then use only the best for breeding.
It takes years of careful breeding, record keeping, pictures, documents to make a new breed for registration...persistance and hard work comes into it

Hi; you just said the majic word, training. Just like all young they need training.
You have what looks like a terrior mix. My daughter has a Jack Russel, named after funny to say Jack Russel, until she was trained terrior spells terror.
Remember always LUV/ CARE FOR YOUR DOG/ PET, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U..

Thanks for the tip Daddy55. I may not breed my mix dog because this one shows a stubborn behavior as a puppy and right now she is a handful for me. I mean that I need her to go to obedience training school because she needs and expert handler. Don't get me wrong she is a loving dog but her stubbornness drives me mad at times.

I love mixed breeds and own one.I have a Lab/German Shepherd/Great Pyrenees mix. She's very smart. She's eight weeks old and already responds to training. She's also house broken already.I think they're just as good. They should have a dog show for only mixed breeds.I agree alot people don't like mixed breeds and kind of act like a snob about them.Well I love all dogs.

i think they wouldn't allow mix breeds to be registered because of what? i mean? what will you call your new breed again? in conformation shows, they wouldn't allow mix as well as unregistered dogs because they set a standard to follow on how to judge this certain breed..if for example, a rottweiler.. there is a criteria for judging that specific breed under the working group..is the topline perfect, the muzzle, the size of the head, the angulation of the extremities..each breed has a unique set of standard conformation as well as their drive and temperament that's each dog is unique..so why waste of having a dog and cannot even join conformation show..and by the way, mix breeds as well as unregistered ones can participate in dog shows..but only a fun match..which eventually has no points for your dog.. :)

Throughout my life I've always had mixed breed dogs and it has never bothered me that I couldn't register them the same way that I would be able to register a purebred. It also has never bothered me that I couldn't show any of my dogs. I think that my dogs that I've had throughout my life have been as beautiful or more beautiful than purebreds, but it has never been a concept that I was interested in to show my dogs so I didn't let any of these facts bother me.

I believe they do this to classify dogs.......... for their research..... what breed can stand out.... sometimes it happens to human too! DISCRIMINATION I may say.
