Should J.K. Rowling write an 8th book?

J.K. Rowling is one of the most successful authors of this era, writing the extremely popular Harry Potter books. She eclipsed the series with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, a love-it or hate-it novel. Some found the novel to be a perfect ending to the series, as most of the major plot lines are tied, yet some consider it to be the worst book of the series because it left many unanswered questions (what is behind the veil; what did Dudley experience/see when almost kissed by the dementors; etc).
Should J.K. Rowling write an 8th book to tie up loose ends? Should she write another simply because it is an intriguing series, or will another book just ruin the series?
I am conflicted: The HP books are my favorites, and I want some of the unanswered questions to be resolved, yet I fear that another book by Rowling will hurt the series.

Hi luxetsalus , welcome to mylot family . I am also a big fan of HP series . I read all the books at least 3-4 times . Yet , i think that a 8th book should not be released . The story has ended finely and it is not appropriate to disturb it otherwise it will become a never ending story after which people will stop reading this. Happy mylotting and have a nice day !

Thanks for the welcome! I think I'm in agreement with you, but hopefully many of the questions I still have will be answered by that encyclopedia on Harry Potter that JKR intends to release.

No, J.K.Rowling should not write an 8th book. That's my opinion. It because, she gave the the series a very good ending through the 7th book. I do not think she left any major questions unanswered. The ones that are left can be answered by writing that encyclopedia that she promised to write for harry potter fans. I think that would be enough for me :)

I don't think she should write an 8th book in the series, but she might write a book where she answers questions from her fans. Then it wouldn't hurt the series and it would tie up some of the loose ends she left. She had already answered a few questions on her web site but she could put those questions and answers in a book along with others. Since the series is over she would not be releasing spoilers. It would be a good thing for her fans, I think. She has already said Harry Potter is over, but I think there were some things left unanswered also.

I guess its really up to the original author J.K. Rowling whether or not she wants to write another Harry Potter book. But I guess I would understand why she wouldn't want to. Since she already had much success with the whole series with the books and merchandise.

I'm satisfied with the ending of H.P series. I don't need to have every single question answered :) One of the great things about stories is that they let you think for yourself. I wouldn't want J.K to saturate the H.P series with lots of pointless information that doesn't contribute to the plot :) I mean , who gives a *Bleep* what Duddley saw? Us , readers saw the result of his vision regardless: him forming a sort of bond with Harry.
That's the great things about stories: they keep you guessing :)

I do not think that she should write an 8th book at all. I felt that, with the exception of what I feel was a horrible epilogue at the end of the last book which honestly read like a piece of fan fiction to me, the first seven books wrapped up the series nicely. You had the first three to introduce all of the characters who would inevitably play key roles and then the last 4 books which told of the return of Voldemort.

I don't think J.K. Rowling needs to write an 8th book to clarify things. It's just up to us, the readers to tie up the loose ends with our own imagination. I think if she will release an 8th book, it will not only ruin the series but it will be a trying hard move on Rowling. I will feel that it's for the money now and not for the fans or even the story itself. This is only my own point of view. I am not an avid Harry Potter fan but I read the books and watched the films. Maybe some would disagree but I believe that the ending was a good one and no clarifications are needed.

I would actually like it if she moved on to different characters and a new series.

I'm conflicted too. I love the Harry Potter series; it was such a huge part of my childhood. The Harry Potter books are the only ones I ever pre-order. I loved Deathly Hallows; I don't care how campy the epilogue of that book was. I'm hardcore. Of course I would love to know some of the answers to some of the unresolved plot lines, but I'm scared that an eighth book will not live up to the rest of the series. Of course, J.K. Rowling is such a wonderful writer that I'm sure she could do the series justice, but I guess I'm okay with some of the loose ends.

Hi!I'm a fan of JK Rowling and I think she ended the series well. If there are still unanswered questions, that is because she wants the readers to analyze the story very well, in that way the reader can find the answer for himself. I'd like her to write another book, not related to wizards. I think that would be interesting.

I was happy with how the series ended. I am now 18 and I grew up with Rowling's books. Yes, there might be some unanswered questions in the series but I am not really interested with those though I would still love it for Harry Potter to have another book. I am just craving for more Harry Potter right now.
I am one of those people who always read the book every time there is spare time. =)
