Working to earn more money is leaving me no time to read

I really love reading. I've been reading books since I was young. I used to buy books every pay day, but because of the financial problems I'm experiencing right now, I'm spending more and more time trying to earn more money and a lot less time reading. Fortunately, my work requires lots of reading of academic journals, so I still get to read, but it's not as satisfying as I would like it to be because I concentrate more on the work that I have to do and not on what I'm reading, although I still enjoy reading those journals. Sometimes even though I'm already very sleepy I still try to read a few pages from my books before going to sleep. What do you usually do to have time to read despite your busy schedule?

I take public transportation, so I read on the way to school and on the way back. I also read before class and during my breaks in class. I make sure to take my books with me wherever I go, so I end up reading before doctor's appointments or while I'm waiting for a web-page to load. You just got to use the time wherever it is given to you.

Hello ally. That's a really great suggestion. I used to do that. I'm not sure why I stopped. Maybe it's because I feel so uncomfortable having so many things in my bag all the time. And reading while travelling is so out of the question for me because I can't stand reading while I'm in a moving vehicle. It makes me feel sick. Sometimes I read during break at work, but I've been so busy lately that I don't even have that much time for breaks anymore.

I never did get why people don't like reading in a moving vehicle. It doesn't seem to make any difference to me. Then again, I've been reading in moving vehicles since I was little. I read in the car whenever my parents were taking me somewhere and I read on the bus to school. It never struck me as odd and it never made me feel sick.
Like I said, you just got to find the time where it's given to you. It may not be much, but a few minutes here and a few minutes there really add up.

Maybe you're just so used to reading in moving vehicles so it doesn't affect you anymore. I tried doing this many times, but I just ended up wanting to throw up. I've been trying to find some time to read. I try to read a few pages before going to bed. I'll try to do as you said and try to sneak in reading in between other things that I'm doing.

I like to read, too. Like you, I don't have much time to read nowadays. I would try to read before sleeping, even though it is only one chapter (that's all I can manage before falling asleep). I tried to read at weekend, in between visits to friend house, house cleaning, shopping, watching movies and playing games in computer. I like to do many different things at weekends.

Due to the fact that I stay up late on my computer chatting most nights I rarely have time to sit and read. Some nights it dawns on me how little time I've spent reading so then I will stop on a night that the chatting isnt happening much and just go read. Usually it makes me very tired so I make sure to take a shower first then I curl up with a blanket and read. Its so relaxing. Earning money is a good thing so although you have less time to read you are doing what you need to do. You will have tons of time to read when you retire lol.

I surely will have lots of time to read when I retire, but as I am only in my 20s, that's still very far from happening. I guess it's partly my fault that I don't have lots of time to read. But what can I do? Right now I spend more time reading posts on mylot because at least I would get some money in return for responding to the posts. I'm glad that mylot is here to help stimulate my mind and reward me too.

I understand you hae to make a living, but I would suggest you set aside at least an hour a day to read whatever you want. You can also can read when you have extra time on your hand. It is really hard to read when you are tired. I also read on my lunch break and sometimes my fifteen minute breaks.

Yea, when I was in school I would try my best to study at the end of the day. I tried to make it a habit to read over all of my notes on a daily basis, so when the pop quiz or the exam time came I was prepared. I had to find another time to do it because I kept falling to sleep also.

You said it right. It's really hard to read when you are tired. I often try to do this, but most of the time I feel so tired that I just fall asleep while holding the book that I'm supposed to be reading.

yup me too. i love reading but when i got hooked on the internet (in general, not only in earning money) i found myself reading less and less. my only consolation is that when on the net, i dont only do so to earn online. i also read blogs and other sites using bloglines. so i guess in a way i get to read too though not the traditional sense of having a book in front of me. well actually, i do have a book in front... just a digital notebook (laptop) hahaha.

I have to admit that using the Internet also makes me read less, but only because I am always trying to find ways to earn money online. The money that I'm earning in my current job is enough to cover my monthly expenses, but I want to have some savings too. I don't know what will happen to me in the future if I wouldn't save money.

It's a good habit to read the newspaper every day because you will always be updated on current events. There was a time when I couldn't sleep too without reading, but that doesn't happen to me anymore because most of the time I feel too tired that I fall asleep the moment I lie on my bed.

I love reading too, but online earnings and other jobs are the reason why I don't have the time. During weekends i can read books as much as I wanted but sometimes I am doing some writing during weekends or sleeping for whole day just to have rest. I have so many books and I like suspense and love story novels. When I have a busy schedule reading is set aside. I will do it when I have no priorities for this week.

You are just like me then. It's Saturday today, but instead of resting, here I am, in front of my computer, working on files that I have taken home. I'm really glad that mylot is here to take away some of the stress that I am feeling. It feels great to post in here.

Hello,
I dont really think it matters which subject or topic you read to make you feel good and happy. I believe it is all about keeping your mind active and healthy. Reading is probably the oldest form of entertainment that I can think of and we still do it, so, it must mean something.
No matter what or where you are in life you still read, ie street signs, menus, adverts, birthday cards, bills (boo), it's all reading and it keeps your mind active.
YES...

You're right that I read wherever I go, but I wish I could have more time to read books comfortably at home. Last night I downloaded free e-books from the Internet. I'm so excited to read them all.

I love the classics, but I also love thrillers and new releases. I try to read a chapter or two per day.

I love classics too, but I don't like thrillers much. My favorite is fantasy.

I can usually read a chapter or two of the books that I get from the library. I am a bit of a crazy one though, so I am usually unable to leave without at least 7 or 8 books in my library bag. I get a lot of thrillers and new releases, but I do love the classics, and will revisit my favorites if I happen to somehow drift over into that section. I also love Spanish langauge books even though they take me a bit longer to read.

Don't worry, you're not the only one who's a bit crazy about books. Sometimes I read two books at one time. I will read one book for 30 minutes and then I will switch to another book even though I haven't even finished reading the first one yet. I do finish every book that I start to read. The problem is that sometimes I can't wait to start reading many books.

That is a good suggestion because I do my work on a computer. Maybe I can familiarize myself with e-books if I would use the Kindle for PC of Amazon. That would make my e-book reading more pleasurable. I guess the only problem that might arise here is that I may lose concentration on my work. But I think I can manage it by multitasking. Thanks.

I won't have to go to work for three days because it's Saturday tomorrow and it's election day on Monday, so hopefully I can squeeze in reading in my schedule. But even if I won't be going to work I still have lots of things to do as I am bringing some of my work home. How I wish I can find a better-paying job so that I won't have to work this hard anymore. I'm not a lazy person, but I want to have a life too, and reading is one thing that really makes my life enjoyable. By the way, are you new here? Welcome to mylot!
