Will a Cold Affect My 5K Time?

So now I've got a horrible cold, and on Saturday I'm running a 5K. I tried running today and only went 2 miles, at 10K pace and it was still pretty hard but I wasn't really trying to go any faster than that. I just wanted to see how bad this cold would be especially now that it is already so hot here (I tend to feel better if it's actually cold outside). It's hard to say if it hurt my training pace at all. I'm hoping I can will myself through it. I know I'll finish, I was just really hoping I can set a new PR and get a good time for the group.

Well, I wasn't trying to beat a record today, just wanted to run a bit faster than an easy pace to see how the cold affected me. I don't run every training run at my 5K pace. :)

Yes it will affect your race. You body is sick, it is trying to recover and while you shouldn't stop training, don't expect to run well.

Yeah, I guess I'll sign up for another 5K after this one once I'm well to really test myself. But I'll still try to run my best on this one too in hopes of at least seeing some improvement of my previous 5K.
