What is Facebook to you?

I have just been on Facebook checking up on my messages and friends.
I also knocked off several applications as I found that they were becoming just TOO addictive and taking over my life.
I had 'pets'in Petsvile and Pet Society, and I started stressing when I hadn't 'visited' or 'fed' them; suddenly last night I thought how pathetic this was to have by life dominated in such a way so today I have got rid of them, and do you know what - I feel quite liberated!!!!
I do like to keep in contact with friends and family who live quite away from me, and I find that Facebook really does help me do that - we are able to post photos and messages, and it is a good way of communicating although I think that it is also important to actually physically SPEAK on the telephone as well.
Do you use Facebook?
If so, what for?
Has it changed you life at all?

I use facebook often to keep in contact with family and friends. I too play alot of games but have cut down on the amount of games I play. There are only 4 games that I play now, mainly because family members play them and need neighbours or help by sending gifts and such.
Though I do still speak to my close family members on the phone.

I have been using Facebook for about a year and a half now, but have found that I've become totally addicted to the apps in the last 8 months. I was doing so many, that like you said it was "ruling" my life. I cut back to 3 apps, but have since taken up another one. They are lots of fun, and I've met some cool people through the games.
I also use Facebook to keep up with my high school friends (I've reconnected with quite a few!) and old co-workers as well as my family. It's really great in that respect. I also use it to help fundraise for a charity I'm involved with.

Hi oldchem1,
With reference to your question, yes I do use Facebook.
For me, "Facebook" is one way to chat with your long lost friend and relatives. Aside from that, this website sometimes gives me a relaxation by watching some of he uploaded videos from friends and viewing some of their photos.
In addition, Facebook for me is a type of website that you can somehow express your feelings or mood since you can post your insights in the Wall Section of it.
Nevertheless, Facebook for me is a somehow a way of relaxation as long as you use the site informatively.

Hi,
Facebook is still a social website - I use this primarily to check what is going on with my family and friends.
Recently, I got in touch with my former classmates and made new friends with the same interest. Another plus is that there are groups or organizations within the same interest or career. I have enjoyed since.

I use Facebook to keep up with friends both old and new. I speedily check out what they are doing, their accomplishments, and check "like" if I like it or just want to let them know I was passing through. I have some fellow writers on the site and sometimes they give news that help me. Sometimes old friends will catch me on Saturday nights and we chat. But usually, I don't spend too much time on Facebook. It's mostly hit and run. No it hasn't changed me. It helps me stay in touch with friends I haven't talked to in years and with life being so short, I want to stay in contact and be a friend and have friends.

hmm. first of all, are from the Philippines? well, if you are, then i think you belong. hehe. well, facebook or fb is really the current craze in this country. after the sidesweep effect of the friendster before, now the facebook is the current craze in town. at first, i was reluctant, but now, there are a lot that i can do to it. well of course, there are disadvantages as well. the advantages involves that i can communicate with my long lost friends. my elementary classmates and high school friends and classmates. i get in touch with them, knowing their situations and somehow make laughs and funny comments. seeing their pictures and a lot more. and the disadvantages involves that it usually consumes all of my time just being in front of the computer which allows me to have less time in my own work. and as of now, my paperwork is really at stake,.. huhu..

I only use Facebook occasionally though. But a lot of my friends are really addicted to it and have to be on it everyday. I just use it to update my profile and keep in contact with family and friends that are really far away from me. I had once found an old classmate from high school and communicated again with each other.

That's true actually. Certain games, if not control might be a bit too time consuming. It's best to stick to the basics. For me, I stick to games that don't really take too much time, and I can just check on and off for a bit. Anyway, I get bored with games easily, so I might move on to other stuffs.

facebook is boring! I have a facebookpage, but everyone's profile looks the same! you might be able to upload a few videos here and there, but not like myspace. on myspace, I have over 50+ youtube videos! plus people's personalities really come out on myspace; you can really personalize your profile on myspace. on facebook I sometimes fall asleep looking at people's boring profiles. plus what is the main function for facebook? commenting on someone who posted "I'm eating a donut"? sure there might be people you know on there.but, there is only so much you can chat/comment,before you go "there has to be more than this"!if I wasn't for a few people I know being on facebook, I wouldn't have any use/need for facebook.
