Our Cat Finds Her Own Way To Entertain Herself. Does Yours?

Sometimes I think our cat is bored as she does sleep a lot, but what cat doesn't? We don't have loads of toys for her. In fact, all we have is a wand contraption with various things dangling from it that she plays with...but on her own terms of course. Start waving it about when YOU want to play well, that's another matter. Walks away in disgust as if to say, "Go away, I'm not a dog!" I often thought that it was just dogs that chased their tails. I have had cats in the past and none of them did this..until my Flojo. It is most entertaining to watch I must say. She also flies around the house which is her way of saying, "I'm about to poo" or "I'm about to wee" in the litter tray. Only a few minutes ago she was playing with a piece of cotton dangling from a cushion that is on my computer chair. If only humans were so easily pleased! Do your cats play like that? I have known cats to play in empty cardboard boxes instead of playing with expensive toys from shops! I owned a cat who had a "thing" about climbing ladders whenever Dad wanted to decorate which was fun to watch! Cats are so individual aren't they? I love 'em.

mine have plenty, but they still create their own toys. people even bring them toys-they're spoiled. two of the 6 had a footie match in the upper hallway with a toy ball LOL (the boys of course) i've had a couple who chased their tails, but it seems kind of rare.

I'd love to have seen that footie match, I bet that was highly entertaining. As for our Flojo chasing her tail, you are right, it is rare because I've had lots of cats over the years and she is the only one that carries out this weird and wonderful behaviour. Very cute!

Oliver likes those poof toys and I just get them at the craft store rather than pay nearly the same amount for 1 or 2 at the pet store. Ronnie likes craft loops until they lose their spring... and most of them like the tabs from the milk jugs.

We've had quite a traumatic day. Well, to cut a long story short our Flojo went missing and we soon realised that she'd been outside all night without us realising (she must've slipped out the back door when John was having his final smoke before bed) . Anyway, we spent all day looking for her and did all the right things like post flyers through peoples' doors...and it turns out that the neighbours found her underneath a car over the road! How long she'd been there we have no idea but to get her back is wonderful. She doesn't like the outdoors at all so we were worried about her big-time. She is now on John's lap and she jumped up onto me earlier nuzzling underneath my chin, purring her head off. I think she's glad to be home...and we are even happier to have her back. I'm glad that your cats find their own entertainment too. I will not take my own cat for granted now!

had a bad moment there "the neighbours found her underneath a car over the road!" but then I see she's alright! Phew! Gabby got out for a few minutes, but I caught her and hauled her furry little butt back inside!

they do amuse themselves, sometimes alone, sometimes with each other. and the best cat toys seem to be things that didn't cost anything, like bottle caps and empty boxes and so on...

I dropped a sweet on the floor the other day and Flojo went charging after it. Very funny to watch! We also have various flyers coming through the door which can be annoying but before putting them in the recycling box, sometimes we let Flojo sit on them, slide on them, whatever she likes really. I forgot to do that with the politicians flyers that came through our door during the election as most had photos of the would-be MPs on them.. Damn!!

Yep, our kittens love playing with all sorts of things. Chewing through electrical wires, getting up onto the kitchen benches and getting the dish cloth off the sink and playing with any socks that happen to get left on the floor. They love socks so much that even if you leave a pair of socks in shoes they will drag them out and take them somewhere else in the house. Every morning I wake to find the dishcloth in another part of the house. This morning we woke to gentle banging outside our bedroom door and then a loud crash. They were playing on a chest of drawers in our hallway that has some of my sons artwork and photo frames on it. They managed to knock over a photo frame. Luckily it did not break. They also love cardboard boxes and will curl up to sleep in them at times when they are not playing in them. No need to buy these kittens toys, there are plenty of things here to keep them amused!

My cat can find anything and play with it. The zip pull from a package, the milk ring from a gallon of milk are all things that will take hours of time for my cat to play with. She will bat the milk ring around the floor and carry it in her mouth from room to room for days. Until she misplaces it and we give hera new one from a new gallon of milk. My son will roll up a pack of smokes and roll it on the floor and she will bat that around. Now if I buy her toys she just turns her back on them so why waste the money. And scrap will make her happy. I love my kitty she sleeps alot also. She will cover herself up in the covers and bury herself and sleep for hours. But she plays for hours and plays hard. I hope you enjoy your cats as much as I enjoy mine.

It looks like you have hours of fun with your cat. Good for you my friend! My cat tends to snore when she is in a deep sleep. It's funny to listen to, then she will suddenly spring into life and demand play!

Hi Janey... I don't have a cat and never had one. But I have read and heard a lot about their own ways to take care of themselves. It is said sometimes that they are very talented creatures and some contradict with that saying that cats are the most dumb creatures... Frankly, I don't know what it is! One day I was alone at home (I must be 12-13) and was watching Tom and Jerry on TV. I had a bowl of snacks. I love to watch cartoons and to eat a little while I watch those... Suddenly a cat dropped in through the window which was open.. It was my first encounter with a cat and was pretty scared... I tried to 'shooe' her away, but she waited there looking at the bowl... The next thing I know of, is running out of the house with my bowl in my hand and calling for help... When the 'help' arrived, I told the lady (who had come after hearing my screams), I told her that there is a cat in the house and she wants to eat my snacks....

Some people are scared of cats when they stare. I knew someone like that. She couldn't stand them! I've never found cats scary, probably due to the fact I've never lived WITHOUT a cat. Therefore I have become used to their strange ways!

I love cats as well! I just love looking at them whenever their playing. I don't really have any toys for my cats, they just find toys in our yard...which is pretty much themselves. Or a rock. lol. They just love jumping and chasing each other.

Hello there! Well, my Mum has two cats and you are quite right, they do tend to play with each other rather than chase toys. I have often seen them play-fighting which is a brilliant spectacle that never fails to make me smile. They are a mother and daughter combination, so full of life.

We have lots of "toys" for our cats, but they love to play with nothing. Their favorite toys are milk rings, paper bags, and old carboard boxes. Paper is not safe around our cat Chinnia, otherwise it quickly becomes "snow". She'll do the same to cardboard boxes too if given a chance. We make sure she doesn't. because those are more and more difficult. Lets see... that pretty much covers it.

Hi Your cat is not bored- being a cat lover you should know that as a fact cats sleep 90% of their lives!!! And yes cats do play with any & everything available within their reach - if nothing then they seem to like hopping or jumping from one piece of furniture to another!! My grand- children's toys - rather especially a small cloth doll, a discarded 4inch doll, is the cat's favourite- she keeps playing with it and even carrying it about in her mouth!! Funny isn't it?? And this being the mango season there are always mango cartons/boxes and the cat plays hicde & seek in & out these big cardboard boxes- yes it is quite entertaining & funny too watching their antics - you don'y get tired at all watching them play.

My cat seems to find entertainment in just about anything. And if there's nothing to entertain herself with, she goes into ninja mode. This is basically a time here she will look around very shiftily and then run from one side of the room to the other, jumping on and off the walls as she does so. Either she's mental or she's just making her own fun :P

Haha! Our cat does something similar but chooses to fly up and downstairs, hence the name Flojo (Olympic sprinter) which is entertaining in itself because she can hop down two at a time. I should time her one day, she's really fast! Welcome to MyLot.
