Toyo and Patis. Are they one and the same?

Some people think that toyo and patis are one and the same. Sometimes when I asked for a patis, they gave me a toyo. When I asked for a toyo, they dont understand what it means. Toyo is soybean extract; otherwise known as soysauce. Patis is fish extract. Thats what makes the two different. Do you agree?
I like to use toyo more than patis. It makes the food more delicious. How about you, what do you prefer?
