Hi friends!
I have seen a few discussions here on mylot, wherein dear friends/members say that they keep looking for a perfect partner in their lives or if they are already married, they wish that their respective partners should be 'perfect'. My question to you is - Do you also keep looking for perfectness in your partner/girl friend/boy friend or you just make yourself happy in his/her imperfectness? Could you find anyone perfect or up to your expectations, who was near perfect, so far?
Your experiences and views please.

I have found him. Well I Should say he found me! He is perfect for me. Being perfect to me means I can accept his imperfections and he can accept mine. My guy Gets me. And I connect with him. But when he found me I wasn't looking for the perfect mate. I had Just broke up with a guy I Thought I loved. I had just healed and there he was. He treated me like a princess and yet he Saw me as I am ans loved what he saw. It took some time but I love him with all my heart . He is perfect for me.

Hi Sarah!
It is good to see you in my discussion. We are really glad to hear that you finally found your guy, whom you consider 'near perfect'. It is all the more heartening to know that you are treated like a royal Princess by him and am sure this makes you doubly happy. We do wish that your love for him should grow and continue till infinity. Best of luck!

Hi Deepak,
Let me first say that ‘perfect’ persons are really really very difficult to live with. They are both irritable and irritating, finding faults with everything you do and sitting high on their lofty pedestal, expecting the world to ‘fall’ in their line and rise to their standard of ‘perfection’…. notwithstanding the fact that no matter how much you try, you can never reach that level. These all are about the character traits of people I’m talking about... however, to me perfection would be somebody who’d be more of a fallible human being rather than a well-oiled machine. That person would have many many faults his/her own and similarly recognize and accept my faults too! While that person would be loathe to change himself/herself, s/he will not expect me to better myself either. To me that would be the ‘perfect’ friend/partner/soulmate…thankfully I’ve found him in my hubby *touchwood*…we both are so comfortable with each other’s imperfections that I think we make the ‘perfect’ pair! LOL

Oh yes, Kala, mylot has given me some wonderful friends and its so nice to see them both together in this discussion, alongwith me.to both of you
Actually, life becomes so much easier and enjoyable once we recognize the fact that we are not machines, but humans and each individual with their own perfections and imperfections, adds to the vibrant kaleidoscope of life. Wouldn’t life be oh so boring if each of us were of the same ‘perfect’ factory-produced standard

Oh Sudipta ! Oh Sudipta ! What a response!
You stole the show by your response. I applaud your definition of perfection - where someone is a fallible human being rather a perfect machine.
If we accept this reality, many marriage would become more sweeter. felt that you
however, to me perfection would be somebody who’d be more of a fallible human being rather than a well-oiled machine. That person would have many many faults his/her own and similarly recognize and accept my faults too! I am really happy to know that you and your hubby accommodate each other's imperfectness and this makes you a perfect couple for each other.
It is true that one who himself/herself considers as perfect would expect the same standard from his/her partner, and one his/her partner does not come upto his/her expectation, s/he would resent.
One of the best responses, so far, Sudipta.
Many thanks for sharing your candid views.

I think a perfect partner is a myth. If you want perfection you have to have a definition of perfection. I think everyone's definitions will be very different. I would rather an imperfect partner this way we can live up to their expectations. If they are perfect they may want a perfect partner and that I am not. I am the type of person that would be bothered by the fact that my partner is and does no wrong then here I am an avid mistake maker. This is my opinion. Im sure others may be able to handle it. I just ask this: Isnt the whole point of meeting someone you love to spend your entire life together growing and learning. If one of you is perfect how can there be equal growth? dl

Hi dl!
I am really impressed by your versatile thoughts on perfectness. You have rightly pointed out that on this issue everyone's definition would be different. It is heartening to know that you have guts to go for a imperfect partner. I appreciate your another thought and fully agree with that that meeting someone in our life is living together and learning from each other and growing together. One of the best responses, so far.

No such thing as a perfect person anywhere! Human beings are not meant to be ‘perfect’. Having said that, I do believe that it is possible to find the perfect partner, that is the perfect person for us! I believe that everyone we meet and who comes into our lives comes with gifts; the problem is those gifts come in the shape of painful lessons sometimes! I have the perfect man for me; he is perfect warts and all!

Hi Paula!
I understand that you wish to say that there is no harm in trying and finding a partner, who could be 'perfect' for us, not perfect per se.
It is really heartening to note that you have perfect partner and he comes upto your expectations. Thanks for sharing.

Hi deepak, I think looking for anything beyond what we already have or hope to have is human tendency. If we are satisfied with what we have then life becomes stagnant.I am not saying that one has to change partners lol, just that you want make things better within the given circumstances, so you may grumble about your partner or friends and wish they had this or that quality.I dont think there is ever any perfection in any relationship....One has to accept there are imperfections on both the sides and make the best of it - all the best deepak

Kiran! Life becomes stagnant only when we are complacent with our own character OR or achievements .Motivation toward perfection must be directed towards only one's own self and if we look for this in another person we would only end up being unhappy because others would push their demands on us.Nothing goes without repercussions Kiran. It becomes miserable if we try to look for something else in our partner , something else that would suit our psyche better, because when the word"perfect" is used here it refers to one person by another person [they are not absolute terms ] and subjectivity is seen in a very big way.

Hi Kiran!
You see your have a valid point to make that looking for more than what we already have, is a normal human tendency and we if do not 'expect' like it, our life may become stagnant. However, we need to accept our partners/friends, they way they are and if we keep grumbling, life becomes difficult. Thanks for joining and sharing.
Have a great day!

Dear dpk,
How are you? I think you are perfect!
As the popular saying goes :
" Beauty Lies in the eyes of beholder"
When we are in love, our partner always seems perfect to us.
After married, then we begin to see their weaknesses. How?
Learn to accept as no one is 100% Perfect. However, anyone
can be perfect as thought by their friends and love ones.
Reason being we see all the positive elements and accept the
weakness as strength too!
All the best and take care

Hello Iri!
Welcome to the discussion. I am fine, however, do not put words in my mouth and ask me to say that 'I am perfect' (in fact I am not).
The moment one learns to accept that his/her partner is not 100% perfect, things start flourishing and improving. It is better to accept someone with all his imperfectness. Thanks for your considered views.

I've never looked for Mr.Perfect even when we were groom hunting for me. I always believed that if two people try to understand and open up to each other, one can have a great if not perfect relationship. Being married for more than 10 years, I can say that my husband and I have undergone many changes and now we've reached a stage where we are not the perfect couple(not yet) but we try to understand each other and react accordingly without compromising on our individualities.
Even when we've had problems, I've always said....we are perfect for each other...we just need to open our eyes and mind and see it!

HI SV!
It is good that you did not look for Mr Perfect (may be due to the reason that in your heart of hearts you knew that such person did not or do not exist). I think the journey of married life is such that we keep on understanding our respective partners through out our lives, it is an unending process and after spending many years together, we start making us understand that this is the best we can get and we need to live with our partner's imperfectness.
Thanks for dropping in.

Because I believe no one is perfect I do not seek for perfection when it comes to my future partner. I just want to have someone with sense of humor, a person that can really makes me happy and very responsible. Some says that do have a higher expectations when it comes to men that is why until now I haven't experienced relationship. Maybe yes or maybe not, because I never gone to a date. I never explore. I am always at home, maybe that is the reason why.

It is good that you are firm believer of the thought that no one is perfect and you have to live with your partner's imperfection, so to say. Hope you will get a near perfect partner. Best of Luck!

I think once married, people need to accept what ever happen. We must be prepared to accept the characters of the person that has entered our life. Nobody is perfect. There are bound to be differences when two people from different backgrounds are united to journey life together. But one must know how to overcome the stress in managing the ups and downs of married life.

Hi Zandi!
You see you have said it very rightly that a couple need to accept each other with their imperfectness. However, I find that many fail to realize that their respective partner cannot be perfect, they always keep 'correcting' him/her for perfectness and end of enhancing their stress level. We need to accept our partner with all his/her difference. Thanks for joining and sharing.

Hi Dpk.....being a practical person,I know its not possible to find a perfect friend or partner.....a beautiful partnership or friendship is a matter of give and take, and adjusting to the imperfections of the other person and making compromises on your part too, which is not hard to achieve if you like the particular person and is able to establish a good rapport with the person in the beginning itself....
While making friends, its easy to get along with people who think on the same wave length, since I am are able to establish a comfort level with them very easily......But if I find that I have to compromise on my values or my integrity,or I find it difficult to get along with certain people then I try my best to distance myself from such so called friends...

Hi Mithra!
I know that you are a practical person and you are aware that imperfections in others do exist and one needs to get along with those imperfections. It is true that comprise beyond a limit is not feasible and one cannot compromise every now and then for the sake of continuing a relationship. Thanks for dropping in.
Congratulations to you (you know for what)

To me, a totally perfect partner is like a myth. A totally perfect partner is got if luck is too good. We need to make someone our life-partner whom we can make such like our dreamed life partner. But in some cases we also need to compromise to be a perfect partner of hers...

No, I would like to find for a girl whom I can make like my dreamed life partner, but it's also essential that that I would need to have a mentality to try to make myself like a partner she have ever dreamed.

I am a very imperfect person and so what right do I have to expect a 'perfect' partner? Don't you agree Deepak? I am one for fairness and justice in life . I would appreciate only if both people adopt this "live and let live " policy and give respect and take respect . I belong to a society where the woman is supposed to respect her husband and I am not willing to sit in judgement of his flaws. If he starts analyzing my flaws then there is no end to this game and we can as well end in a divorce court.

Kala Hi!
Very well said that if you can assess yourself or if you are aware that you are not perfect, then you should not expect your partner to be perfect, it is a logical thinking, however, I fear many do not think like you. Live and let live is the best policy for survival and growth of two partners. Thanks for joining us.

I got married very young and I dont think i knew at such a young age what perfect was or anything close to realizing what it ment to say this is the person i want to spend the rest of my life with. I dont think perfect relationship exsists but i do think there is a happy medium that a couple can be good for each other. Everyone is going to have their differences , after all we are all human and not perfect.

the idea of perfection is relative to the person. like what they say, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." in my case, my friends may be the perfect group for me, but may not be so with others. anyway, with that being said, i don;t really expect people to be perfect nor am i looking for a perfect person, because i believe this gives me the risk of disappointment. i think one should accept the partner or the friend for who he/she is, "warts and all." it's like pizza, you eat everything on it, and you don't eed out what you don't like. may be a poor analogy, but i hope you get what i mean.
honestly i used to look for the perfect partner but i always ended up getting disappointed, hurt, and frustrated. my husband may not be a perfect person, but i know he is the best for me, one who truly makes me happy and brings out the best in me.

Hi Eve!
Welcome to mylot and welcome to my discussion. You appear very practical and logical and am impressed with your thought that if one keeps looking for a perfect partner, s/he is sooner or later going to face disappointment or may feel frustrated. It is better to come to terms with reality and 'accept', who is with us or what is with us. If you think that your hubby is best for you and he brings out best in you, nothing like you. We wish that your relationship should get more stronger and stronger. Best of Luck!

I am not looking for a perfect mate because no one is perfect. Everyone has a flaws in terms of character. Physically, not everyone has perfect feature. Instead, If I may have found a partner, I will try to be perfect to him. In many ways to understand and accept him as what he is to me. To correct undesirable things for our relationship and make resolutions for certain expectations. With mutual agreement, I believe things becomes perfect for us.
