I have the tendency to buy things which is cheap even if I do not need them. then I noticed that it was a waste of money. Now I have stopped buying useless things. I buy only things I really need. Life is too difficult we must not adapt frugal living. What is your opinion?

There have been times that I have bought things I did not need regardless of whether I was getting it at a bargain. Before I met my husband I would just spend my money as I pleased without giving a thought to saving. Okay I did think about saving but didn't really do it. Now that my husband and I are married we still spend our money on things we do not need. However we reason this with saying when we get our own place we will not be able to spend as much money as we can now.
We only have a few bills to pay and some of the bills are paid on a six month basis so aren't as bad as if we had to pay them every month.
I think that we should adapt to being frugal however as it is much more cost effective that way. We can save more money in the long run which can be used when we want to splurge or when something needs repaired.

I have the same problem. I still do. Glad that you've changed. When I go to shop and I see something on sale, and I think it's really cheap, I'd buy it even if I don't really need It. You are right we need to spend on things that we really need because life is so difficult, but I guess stopping myself from buying on sale is more difficult.

Yep my hubby and I are famous as are some of my relatives because the item(s) a deal. Especially at rummage sales or thrift stores can be dangerous as well as the clearance racks.

I used to do that at the super a long time ago, but I stopped doing it at one of the bad economical times in my life. I then made a list with all I needed and headed for the supermarket. I threw into the cart all I wished and always bought. My husband did the same. At the cashier, I made two pays: one with the meeded things and one with the temptations. THAT cured us forever from overspending and after that always went with the list.
I still put a meat offer in the cart, but that is about all.

I come from a poor family and that taught me to be frugal in all aspect of my life. I'm such a thrifty person, and when I'm planning to buy something, I think about it twice to make sure that I really needed that thing. I only spend on food, nutritious ones, because I want to invest more on my family's health knowing the cost of medical expenses nowadays. I don't buy expensive clothes or shoes, I'm okay with cheap ones. I learned the value of spending money wisely because of my own personal experiences.

Most of the time I do look for things that I need but I do sometimes on occasion look for the things that I just desire. It can be hard at times when we are just trying to make ends meet and we have to save and be careful on what we spend our money on. I think it is getting hard for a lot of people and some people don't want to accept their situation and that is why they end up in a worse off one and not saving but spending money they don't have and end up in debt. That is not the way to live either. I think people need to access their situation first and plan a budget and reward themselves a little bit when they can afford to. It is something that everyone I think thinks about. It is hard too because there are so many things tempting us and persuading us to buy but we really have to try to remember the things we need first before the desire.

Yes. I am also guilty of this habit. I am still trying to control myself from buying unnecessary things. Sometimes, when I go to the mall, I tend to get distracted from what I really plan to buy there in the first place. For example, I need to buy just some office supplies. Then I end up buying that along with a nice top or two.

I don't think there is anyone wo is not guilty of this pleasure. We all buy things that we want but don't really need. It gives our lives the sense of comfort we seek.

Everything that I buy these days has a purpose of some sort. It might not be apparent at first, but everything that I purchase is not for the sake of purchasing. For instance, I would not buy the newest and greatest technology just because that it is the newest and greatest. The fact is that if I have something that works well for what I need, why would I buy something new? After all, I do not need it.
I think in the end, buying only what I need helps save me a lot of the money. After all, in the end, it is not what you make, it is what you save. Therefore I tend to save what I can, by carefully deciding what I need. And if there is any doubt, it is highly likely that I do not need that. Therefore, if that happens, I do not purchase it. It is just as simple as that.

maybe before, but not necessarily i dont need them. i need them.. for later use. but nope, i dont buy those cute-sy, clutter-y stuff with no use. now however since i am practicing the art of being frugal i carefully scrutinize what to buy. more on necessities rather than wants.

Absolutely. I spend my money on heaps of things I don't need. It's just human nature to want more than you need. If you could choose whether to live a life in a cave or luxurious mansion , which would you choose? Assuming you are human , you'd choose the mansion. In fact , the money we earn is also more than we need. Even on a macdonald salary , it is more than we need. We could live a life eating vegetables grown in a field , having no clothes and sleeping out in the open. You see? Everything we use our money on is frivolous. The four basic human needs: food , shelter , clothes and warmth. Yes , we've satisfied all of those and then some.

I do sometimes buy things I don't need, but I put a chunk into savings every month, too. I think that if we never buy things we don't need, life becomes a chore. I'm not saying to waste money all the time on frivolous things, but a treat now and then helps keep me satisfied.

I used to but life hit hard so I stopped. When life got better again we started up a little but not too bad as we remembered how much trouble we got ourselves into when we where young a dumb. Now life is hard again and it was not so hard to cut back again as it was first time as we did know what was coming and that we could live that way very well.

My problem is I see something that I know someone else needs and I pick it up for them, especially when it is on clearance. I have cut back on some of this but often buying the bargin is a good stress reliever for me. I have decided that it is time to clean out the house and get rid of all the junk that we no longer use. So it sounds like we will be having a yard sale soon. Sad thing is that some of this stuff may be still new, just because it was such a bargin.

I don't buy something I won't be needing it will just go to waste. Frugal living is good and I guess it's connected to living a simple and contented life. I used to buy something cheap for myself although I can always have an alternative. I guess Its best to somehow adapt frugal life even if it was difficult.

Yeah I spend money specially on foods I want. Sometimes I spend money in games cd that I don't really play because I don't have time. Well spending might be a way to relieve stress lol.
