When I go to the grocery or to the shopping mall I bring with me a shopping list to make sure that I will not forget the things that I need to buy but there are really times that I end up not buying what's on the list and but something else instead. There are also times that I overbuy, I tend to buy stuffs even if it's not on my shopping list. I have been trying so hard to be a wise buyer but there are really times that I fail. How about you? Please share your experiences and tips.

I always bring a shopping list with me whenever I shop for supplies at home. I always stick to my list because I only bring enough money to pay everything in the list. I budget the price at home and bring the needed amount with just a very few extra in case the amount increased. I keep my receipt of my previous bill for the price list. In that way, I will not overspend and think of getting anything i don't need and out of budget.

Good for you. I always sit down and think thoroughly of the items that I really to prioritize in buying but like I said there are times that I fails. For instance I forget to include in the list paper towels so that would add up an extra amount and would make me go beyond the budget but I am really trying so hard hopefully I will no longer fail to jot down the items needed and follow the list accordingly.

So if I got it correctly it's your husband who decides what you need to buy based on the allocated budget and you don't have a say on what to buy? Or maybe I got it wrong, you are given the budget and you then decide what are the necessary things to buy.

At least we are not alone. We share the sentiment with others.

A winning survey said it. Make a of what is required and purchase those things only. But our market is now taken up the psychology that whatever is in the store will reach in our home and make our pocket empty. A wise way is always advised that make a list and buy those things and something else you noticed, judge it whether it is required immediately or not, keep it for next time. However, all are around you can get grab whenever it is required. In my case, this is the formula. Regards, Thank-s

Nice tip. I guess I should ask myself if I really need it before buying something that's not on the list. But you know what most often than not it is needed specially if it's a grocery item.

I do make lists sometimes, but not on a regular basis, but I usually do not stick to the list, because I always see something else that I think I need. But my goal with the list is not really to limit my spending anyway, its more because I want to make sure I don't forget to buy something. So it works fine for me! Is there any chance someone else can do your shopping for you, while sticking to the list religiously instead of you, if you are having trouble with this? Husband or boyfriend maybe?

That's actually a very nice idea if only I can get my boyfriend to do the shopping for me unfortunately that's not his thing so I am really the one in charge.

Every once in awhile I'll make a list but not always. If I do make a list, that list usually contains all of the things that I need right at that moment that I generally use on a daily basis. However, I often do come home with other things that were not on that list. I do occasionally buy different items that I was not planning to buy because I like changing up my diet and adding a lot of different things to the house so we have other things to choose from when planning meals. It just makes life a lot easier I think.

I also bring a list when I go to the grocery store. Usually I buy all the items listed but I also buy some other items which are not on the list. This happens when I forget to include the items in my list or I just find out while shopping that I need to buy the item. I really want to stick to my list. I am trying hard to do it until now.

No for me totally no.Its not that i don't want to, i want to stick to yes i really do but the things never go that way for me. Everytime i go for shopping i have the list in my mind but when i reach the place then instead of checking on my list, i get carried away by all the other awesome stuff around and then i end up buying that i didn;t planned.

I try to stick to a shopping list - that is if I don't completely forget to bring it with me when I go shopping. Most of the time I am really trying to save money, so I always double check the things I put in the cart to make sure I really need them. If I don't need them, I usually don't end up buying them. I have second thoughts about things I place in the shopping cart, so if I can't afford it, I usually don't buy it. Sometimes I do buy things I don't need, but I find that having automatic second thoughts about possible purchases helps me restrict my spending by a lot.
