Did you ever found anything valuable and did you return it?

I found a wallet once with 100€ in it but i gave it to waitress if someone comes looking for it. Recently in our city someone forgot a jacket with 20000€ and i'm not lying and the waitress returned it. What would you do? I admit i'd be tempted to take it but i probably wouldn't.

Hi Slovenc,
All the time and yes, I do everything I can to find the owner and return it. I work in a store next to a bar so if you can imagine, it is not uncommon to find dropped wads of cash, wallets, etc. I once found a wallet with hundreds of dollars in it. I looked inside and found the license. I work the night shift and did not trust the woman that was coming on in the morning so I took the wallet home with me. The next day I called the man and told him not to worry about his wallet and that I had it and he could meet me at the store to get it when I came in in the afternoon. I work out of town. He had not even noticed it missing yet!! I work hard for my money and I know how I'd feel if I lost even 20.00 so yes, if there is anyway that I can track the owner, I do. Often times my customers have had way too much and hand me a 50.00 bill thinking it is 20.00. I just could never take advantage of that. It's all about the Karma. If I accidently hand them back too much money (and I have) they return it to me.

Oh and about that Karma....Once I had my wallet on the seat of my car. It had pretty near my whole paycheck in it. I had tossed it there instead of throwing it back in my purse which I normally would do. I then picked up my daughter to give her a ride to a friend's house across town. When she got out, my wallet must of slid out and under the car onto the street. I went home and a while later I got a call from an older woman telling me she had come across my wallet. With all the dishonest people out there, how lucky was that that my wallet was found by one of those rare honest gems?

You were very lucky, looks like you're like me. Even if you are responsible and watch over your things it'll happen sometimes that you loose something. I once lost my car key while trying pants in the store. I got it back but still why did that happen to me. Oh and i always return the money if someone gives me back to much. It wouldn't feel wright knowing that the person who made the mistake might have to cover it out of his own pocket. Did you watch My name is earl? It's funny and all about karma Thank you for your comment, good luck, stay fair, i know i will.

If I found a jacket with 20,000 dollars , it's basically theft if I take it and if my face gets captured on video I'd get arrested... However if there's no chance of me getting caught , I still wouldn't take it because I wouldn't want someone else to steal from me. "Do unto others as they would do to you"

Did you also loose id and cards? I'd care more for that than for money. Nice of you to be so fair you wouldn't take the 20000. I cant decide between bed and good...if i'd take it or not. Whoever is careless enough to loose 20k must have a lot of pocket change. But in general i do stick to your principal and i just can't understand how some people enjoy starting fights and stealing and being rude. If all people were like me there would be no wars...

Also , I have been stolen from in public. I was in a noodle shop and like a fool , I left my wallet on the table , so that I could go up with my friend to the counter to choose what to eat. I never got to use the $20 and the movie voucher that was in my wallet. :(

When I worked in Housing at the amusement park I used to take items I found in the shower rooms to the desk. It doesn't always work. One time I found an expensive electric shaver and handed in to the lady at the desk. She left it out and when the guy approached me to see if I'd seen it, I directed him to the desk. Apparently, someone else took it. One time many years ago I taught in this school system and we were closing down a school. I found an envelope of money that I guess had been collected for a trip or something. So I approached a coworker and said, "here, I found this." He placed it in his pocket and the people I worked with agreed with him that I gave him the money. So I've now wary of who I give found items to.

The only thing of value that I've ever found...and in this case it was of sentimental value...was a ring. When my ex and I bought our house we took up some carpeting and I found a class ring from 1920-something. It was inscribed with 3 initials. I called my real estate agent and asked her to contact the sellers to see if this ring meant anything to them and it turned out that it did. It had belonged to the woman's mother, long deceased, and she had lost it years earlier. She had no idea how it got under the carpet but she was thrilled to finally have it back.

I bet she was thrilled, nice of you to return it. Sometimes things hide so good you just can't find them. Two weeks ago i lost my usb for 2 gigs with school work on it and i was sure i left it in a school pc and someone stole it. But yesterday my gf found it on the bottom of her suit case. Thanks for your comment

Even tho you were the one that found it it even gave me a good feeling when i read your story. It's so nice when you do the wright thing and also get a reward. It's a win win situation. Imagine the owner wouldn't say thanks or anything because he'd be ungrateful and egoistic. Than i'd wish i never gave him his stuff back! Thanks for your comment!

My son once found a men's diamond ring in the dressing room of an amusement park. We asked park officials if anyone had reported it missing and checked the newspaper's lost and found section for weeks trying to find the rightful owners. No one ever came forward so he got to keep it. The scary part of it was that the park said we could turn it into them and if someone came forward they would give it to them; otherwise at the end of the season it is "disposed" of (meaning someone from the park would get it). We gave them our names and phone numbers and told them that if the owner came forward looking for it to have them give us a call and describe the piece, we would then make arrangements to meet them or ship it securely to them.

Hey Slovenc..When I was a little kid, I went to a shop to run some errands for my mom. An elderly lady was there buying something when a lot of money fell out of her purse and she didn't realize it even. She looked kinda poor and that money must have been her hard earned money and savings. I picked it up and gave it to her,she was so grateful that she offered me some money for being kind to her but i declined. Sadly people aren't all that honest. I've heard of people leaving their phones in public transport vehicles and when they realize it and call their number, the call is immediately disconnected and the next time, the phones' switched off and they never get it back! I know its tempting at times, but if you put yourself in that person's shoes, you would definitely want to get your stuff back if you lost it!! i make sure that I'm extra careful about my wallet and my phone whenever I go out.

I'm extra careful not to loose anything two but sometimes it happens. I lost my car key a few months ago when i was trying new pants and i and my gf looked for it all over the shop but nothing. I was lucky because someone gave it to the staff and i got it back later that day. There was a catch...i had a spare but it was in my trunk in backpack. So i'd have to break into my own car if someone would take the key and throw it in garbage if he'd be evil. When i got it back i just wanted to hug the girl that returned it. I am one of those people who always returned stuff he found and am fair. It's just awful how somebody can be that mean that he takes your mobie and you loose all numbers. But sadly there's nothing you can do about it. Thanks for your comment

Not me personally but my mum found a wallet with a load of cash in it and she took it to the police station and the copper took the credit cards and the wallet and give the cash back to my parents as a finders fee his reasoning being they where lucky to even get the credit cards back without having there id stolen. Also walking thru to3wn once found a load of notes fluttering down the street looked around no o ne running after it so grabbed it bloody quick no one would be able to return it to the rightful owner and no one was around so why not

Lol the cop gave your parents the moneyfinders keepers. It is great if the one who finds your wallet returns your id and driving licence because you have many problems if you loose that. About the fluttering notes...i also found 20€ on the floor once and took it quickly. If one would ask around those 20€ would be from 100 people. I also found some money twice when i was snorkeling in the sea. I guess fish didn't mind. Tnx for your comment, have a great day!

well it is not good to take others thing. I have found many such things but i dont even touch it. you know if we take it then it would be our responsibilty to take that thing to its real owner. And if you can't find the owner just give it to a poor person. once my brother had found about 65 or 70 $ from somewhere, and he took it and used it. i repeatedly asked him to give it to a poor person but he did'nt and finally after one week our 500$ motorbike was lost.someone broke its lock and took it. Dont know how he did it. That lesson was enough for me that's why i ignore to take such things.

I will also give it back especially if it happens that so I find so much money. This inevitably means problems!I have found and I-phone which costs about 500 dollars and I gave it back because I know how hard my friend worked to buy one.I imagined how was the man who had lost it feeling so I gave it back.
