Feverfew to combat migraines

I know there are already some migraine discussions, and though I do not suffer from them myself, I have friends and family who do. What I'm wondering is if anyone here on myLot who experiences them has tried taking feverfew to combat their symptoms. It's not one of those quick temporary fixes, it's something that needs to be taken regularly and for a decently long period before results may be seen, but I've heard it can work very well (and for other types of headaches, as well). The simplest way to take it is usually in a capsule filled with the crushed or ground herb. There is a local herbarium only a few miles from me that sells it, but it grows wild, too. I'm not certain how available it is in different countries, however.

Hi Catkin; I must admit, Feverfew for migraines is not something that I have ever heard of before.
I get bad migraines, have for years and is due to spinal problems that can and maybe not even be fixed with surgery which I am not about to go for.
I have, over the years, tried different approaches.
I find that now I can tell when a head twinge is going to turn into a migraine and is when I will take 400 mg's of Ibprophen. With in half an hour, I feel no pain at all. If I got it in time.
I was taking Tylonol with codeine but do not like it.
The only way I can get rid of a migraine once it is started is to take the Ibprophen and head to bed where I slow my breathing right down (to help stop the throbbing) and eventually fall asleep. When I wake I am good.
I am lucky to get to sleep before it gets to the point I am vomiting.
I have found that warm quiet baths help too. The idea is to relax. Sleep is best, for me anyway. Also traction in the neck helps as well.
I may look into the Feverfew although it is my spine, particularly in the neck area why I get migraines. It will be interesting to see how Feverfew effects combating migraines. Thanks for the tip!

That's one of the touch things about migraines, there are so many different possible causes. Oddly enough, on rare occasions I've experienced the "aura" that some people see prior to migraines, but I've never had a migraine afterward and have no idea what brought on the aura.
It's definitely worth a try; it certainly won't do any harm, though I don't know if feverfew interacts at all with medications. It's good, at least, that you're able to manage your migraines with minimal medication...I can't picture being on some of the migraine-specific meds, but if they're really bad I suppose a person might try anything for relief.

In the past, I have taken this for migraines and it does help to some extent as well. I am actually considering going to Target later this evening and buying some to see if it will help with the Migraine I have had now for about 4-5 days which does not seem to be getting any better. Personally if Herbal medications will work for people they are better for you. Just sometimes wish they could be put on my prescription plan so I could get them at a cheaper cost.
