I personally did not lose any family or friends in the the terrible World Trade Center Terrorist Attack but I find this proposal to be incredibly disrespectful to the memory of those who died by the actions of Islamic terrorists.
A proposal to build a mosque steps from Ground Zero received the support of a downtown committee despite some loved ones of 9/11 victims finding it offensive.
The 13-story mosque and Islamic cultural center was unanimously endorsed by the 12-member Community Board 1's financial district committee.
The $100 million project, called the Cordoba House, is proposed for the old Burlington Coat Factory building at Park Place and Broadway, just two blocks from the World Trade Center site.
"I think it will be a wonderful asset to the community," said committee Chairman Ro Sheffe.

What I am hearing them say, loud and clear, is that the Mosque will be an asset to the community and an asset in educating the community that the Mosque will be an asset to the community. What I am not hearing is that the Mosque will be making a statement from the Muslim community that is against the same terrorists that are a part of their culture. I am not hearing a statement of expressed sorry and a show of solidarity with the people of New York that lost family and friends because of the terrorists and that they will stand with the people of New York to continue in fighting terrorism. Just what does that "asset" include to the people of New York other than the stated educational value?
Did any of what I said sound redundant? So did what the Muslim leaders said. Double speak and redundancy....what a concept.

Whiteheather, as sad as the tragedies of 911/2001 were, the fact remnds that the collapse of the World Trade Towers were all about money! Did you know that the trade towers had been denied demolition permit prior to their destruction because the building were infested with asbestos and the owners of the buildings had taken some very expensive insurance policies on the buildings? I strongly believe that those Arabs involved in the tragedies of 911/2001 (though with axes to grind with the US government) were simply being used to accomplish a financial goal!

Some floors of the world trade center were fireproofed using material containing asbestos prior to it's being banned. This was commonly known. It was not a reason to demolish these two buildings...or are you suggesting that every building that contains asbestos in New York has been demolished? There are thousands of them still standing.

Netsbridge I have never ever heard of such a ridiculous reason for bombing the WTC. Do you have any links to back up your unbelievable statement.

I have NOTHING against ordinary, everyday good people who are Muslims but I think that building a Mosque at that particular location is salt in the wounds of all Americans, especially those that lost someone on 9/11. I don't see why they could not build it in another location farther away from the site of the murders.

I agree that the location should be away from the actual site.

as i already know that u don't get offended by what other people say...let me ask you how you would feel if your entire caste people were blamed for some lame*** person from you all would ve done some bad thing! or even worse, you were to be blamed as bad!!??

This is not (for me) a religious grudge. I already said that I only wrote the first paragraph whi is my opinion that it is distastful and show a lack of compassion to this monument to Allah be slap dab in the middle of where "some" Muslim took the lives of many innocent people. As is to be be assumed from your avatar you are most likely of the Islamic faith. My own experience as a Christian woman living for 4 years under Islamic laws does not bring me any happy memories which you as a Muslim couldn't understand...I hope you think about this!!

How can building a mosque be offensive? The so-called Muslim hijickers are alive anyways. One even held a press conference after 9/11 asking why his name was taken like that. We still do not know the real names of the culprits.

Yes one could only look at this view and decide to agree with because there are so many people that are just simply angry and are holding onto a lot of hidden emotions that are not necessarily positive. However we do have to keep an open mind and also we need to realise that even muslims condemn what those terrorists (muslim or not) did. I have spoken to many of them, and it is so against their religion to commit such acts but those crazies that did the crime should be punished of course, but what about the people that are just like you upset and angry but also just happen to be muslims? I do feel with you because it is not a thing I would wish on any humanity of any race, religion, color, gender. We forget that there are criminals in our own countries of many nations and religions but when they commit a crime, do we judge their background or do we judge their acts and their behaviour or mental state? It might be a positive thing to send out a kind of message to the world, you know like a peaceful one? Isn't that what we are all most lacking not just in our lives but all over the world? Isn't that what most christians and other religious people all over the world are praying for even muslims? I think its is best in these situations to keep an open mind and not allow negative hateful feelings to spread because those are the kind of emotions that cause wars and such events.
