By now most persons know about the massive oil spill that occurred in the gulf and has resulted in more that six hundred barrels of oil rushing towards gulf coast states.
Now should this company be charged financially ,or in a court of law or just written off as a mistake ?

Yeah it should be written off as a mistake, because that's what it was. They should be held responsible for what happened, and be required to clean up their mess, but further punishment is not necessary. Punishment is used to teach a lesson, but I'm sure they have already learned their lesson. They just lost alot of money. I'm sure that they will be investigating, and finding out how it happened, and fixing the problem so that it doesn't happen again.

Thank you for your views .I know and agree it was an accident but somehow I think there hould be some kinf fianacial punishment even force them to contributte to some kind of environmental foundation (if that hasnt been done already ).My reason for saying that is that i remmeber when BP made about ten billion dollars in a couple quarters and I think they have gotten greedy and that it is their haste to make more money tresulted in them ignoring some safety measures

I think instead of worrying right now what the penalty should be they need to worry about getting the spill stopped. I'm sure bp did not want this to happen.

I personally believe that they should be forced to shutdown all operations.

Since this oil spill has financially harmed other businesses, BP should be fined.

I think that BP has definitely learnt from their mistake! This ‘little’ incident has cost them millions of dollars already. I do believe that it was a mistake and a costly one at that and, because fines etc are issued in order to teach the guilty person a lesson I think that has already happened through BP’s financial losses. They should be held responsible for the clean up operations at their expense of course.

I believe that there should be some kind of a fine for this having happened to BP because there are ordinary people that make mistakes in their lives and they end up fined for the mistakes that they make. In addition to that, the cost of cleanup from this having happened is going to be extremely expensive and there needs to be a way for this to be financed. This should not be something that the government is responsible for as there are already enough financial problems in the government as it stands.
