My friend is staying in hostel, and there they want to connect the laptop to PC. so is it possible to connect those two with USB extension cable? will the connection occur automatically if i do so? Or is there any special software for that? have any one tried it? is there any risk in connecting the laptops usb port to PCs usb port via Usb extension cable? please give your valuable response.

I guess YES. but you need to use the software which comes with the usb wire kit to copy files from one to the other.

i do believe there is a way to connect a lap top to a pc. although i have not done that before so i'm sorry if i'm not much help. but i have seen my brother do that before and have them interact with each other. my brother is a computer programmer so he knows alot about computers.

Yeah it is possible but I agree with above post that you should use LAN instead of USB extension cable as it's easy to connect and also reliable and faster network. You can refer http://www.techspot.com/vb/all/windows/t-301-How-to-connect-2-pcs-via-USB.html

this is possible but the speed will not be enough and you will need software to configure them. i think there is a better way to use the LAN wire and by that you could get the better and faster speed and this is easier to configure.

Years ago, I have used serial and parallel cables to transfer data between computers. Serial cables are null modem : I made one to transfer data from a casio PV to a psion 5mx. A USB transfer cable is also a special cable. They are sold with software -- Microsoft sells Windows Easy Transfer -- and I don't use them anymore. If you have a wifi router and a laptop with wifi, you can transfer easily your files from your laptop to your desktop as I do, with a local FTP server.

I dont think so.. because i think USB is just for flash drive and any removable disk.. you could use lan connection or cable.. and im sure that it will work,.. :)
