hello mylotters,
i just came up to this question because of a certain text.
i used to text others with a lot of exclamation points,
without having the intention to shout at them.
well i'm really not sure why i use exclamation points,
maybe i used it the wrong way that's why one time my sister once talked to me about this thing, i'm surprised to know that sometimes she get frightened by the way i text her. i haven't been aware of other's feelings when i use to text that way.
now,ill be more careful on using it.
exclamation mark or exclamation point is a punctuation mark usually used after an interjection or exclamation to indicate strong feelings/emotions, or high volume and often marks the end of the sentence.
sometimes it's also placed at the end of a forceful command.
from now on,i'll be more careful for others to understand me well.
how about you? did you experience the same thing?
i'll wait for your response,thanks...

only when i want to specify something...but its always good to use exclamation nowadays everytime we do texting since people are dumb to ignore and by pass our text...i spent an amount for the text to be ignored..so use exclamation to get their attention

yeah,specifying something.
but i recently have read about this thing and it makes someone annoy and it feels like too much exclamation points is being rude.what can you say about that?

Hello friend!!
Hey look!! i already used four exclamations signs... Don't take it rude if you found me using these signs again and again as I use them several times in my comments, responses and so on...
Whether i write take care or happy myLotting whatever or as you can say even after hello friend i used that..... So take it my habit to use it.
No doubt, these are not suitable everywhere and so many times i use them without considering anything ... Using so many times does not mean that i do not use that where to use them...ha ha... i am content writer as well as an engineer so know their use and use them well in my articles but here... I AM FREE TO WRITE!! I CAN WRITE WITH MY OWN STYLE!! SO, I CAN USE THEM AS MANY TIMES AS I WISH!!... hey! again i am not rude or shouting on you... dear friend, i am just expressing myself...
Thanks for nice discussion...
Have a nice time!!
Take care!!
Happy myLotting!!

Hello again!!
LOL!!
Again several exclamatory signs for your exclamation questions....ha ha...
Yes, you are right.. we have no right to hurt someone's feeling...
If you can't make someone happy then at least don't hurt them!! One can do this much...
Its good that you did not take my signs as hurting... as I used just as freedom not to hurt anyone... and how I can hurt my sweet myLotters... My intension is never to hurt anyone ever,,, never!!!
Still if I hurt someone ever...that here i apologize for that...
Have a great time!!
Take care dear friend!!
Happy myLotting!!
again many exclamations for you!!!!

hi chdsandeep,
WOW!!!
what a nice catch! well, now i'm using it too!
but i guess it depends on the words that were inside the sentence with exclamation point. the way you type don't annoy me and i don't find that rude in a way...
maybe because i'm used to using it myself that's why i don't feel bad.
well, it's our own freedom to use whatever punctuations we want to use but as long as we don't hurt feelings of others, right?
thanks for sharing your opinion.nice to hear from you!

I often use them, just as you have put your definition of the exclamation mark.
But, as you said, it is sometimes annoying to the receiver. There is a lot of communication gap, and the fast paced world, and innovations in technology are adding to the confusion.
There is nothing wrong in you using it, as YOU PLEASE!,
There is also nothing wrong with the way your sister, or others FEEL BAD about that too. As THEY PLEASE!!
As long as .. you are able to discuss and make a point, there is no issue of grammer !!!

i think it's just a matter of expressing strong emotions or just the momentum of the said sentence. well, anyone can use exclamation points whenever they want to but considering feelings of others whom you are relying the message is still be to think of. it's really nice if we all understood each other without hurting each other's feelings.... so i guess we really have to be careful everytime we throw words to express our own thoughts and ideas...

not very much. i can no longer remember the last time i use it. i dont know what happen but i decided one time that i don't like using it aside from any other symbols. when you get to read my online writings, you can count on it the there will be no exclamation point.

I try to take care when using the exclamation point. I try to only use it when i am feeling strongest about a statement. otherwise it loses its momentum.

nice for you to know how to use exclamation points the right way.
well, i can see you are very well mannered girl like others have said.
but sweetie,we all have feelings too and for me having a habit of using that in a wrong way might cause someone to be frightened, like my sister used to.
so, yeah i think all of us have to be careful in every way we can specially when it comes to others' feelings...nice to have you here!

I almost never use an exclamation point. I don't feel the need to yell, or be overly dramatic about things. Sometimes though just for the hello of it, I'll add one. You never know when I might put one. Could be anywhere. When you least expect .... it! ahaha!

yes, we all have freedom to do whatever we want to do here.
and making yourself used to not using exclamation points is amazing...
but sometimes you really need to make use of it regarding the things you need to express feelings on.thanks for the response redhotpogo...

yes, sometimes i do use exxclamation points when i'm mad. but i guess i seldom get mad and if i do,sometimes i don't make replay to a certain person. i don't like to hurt their feelings, might as well keep it to myself. sometimes i like them to see that i am bad,to cover up their own fault sometimes. its okay for me to suffer i don't like to see them suffer for me.

I only use exclamation point if my sentence expresses excitement. And of course, I only use one in each sentence. I don't see the idea of using 3 to 5 times exclamation points in a sentence. In writing, I believe, that's a mortal sin. That is a way of abusing punctuation marks. For formal writing, you have to observe not only correct grammar but correct usage of punctuation as well. Oftentimes, too many exclamation points appear in text messages. I think it's okay since it's not formal anyway, but it's better to exercise the proper use of exclamation point and all other punctuation marks so that we'll get used to correct usage.

hi joanick,
what if you want it to have more feelings, because you're very excited like "WOW!!!"
is that considered a sin? as you've said i believe in formal writings of course that is not good if there's a lot of exclamation points. and yes,it's really good to practice more of texting with exclamations points the right way to better improve our usage on it.
i really appreciated the link you shared in this discussion.
may it be a guide for all of us here to know about exclamation mark...
