Beware of a new virus that is finding its way into Windows machines via Yahoo IM and latest has it Skype as well.
It arrives as a message via instant message through Yahoo IM or Skype with a number of messages like:
"Does my new hair style look good? bad? perfect?"
Or,
"My printer is about to be thrown through a window if this pic won't come out right. You see anything wrong with it?"
These messages include a link to a Web page that seems to direct you to look into a JPEG, or image file. When the link is clicked on, the browser displays an interface that looks like the RapidShare Web hosting site and offers up a ZIP file for download. The extracted file is actually an executable file with a .com extension.
DON'T CLICK THE LINK - IT IS A MALWARE!
The malware, which Bkis - a security firm, has detected is "W32.Skyhoo.Worm," disappears if the computer does not have Skype or Yahoo Messenger installed. It automatically sends messages with varying content and malicious links to contacts in the victim's IM list and automatically injects a malicious link in e-mail messages and Word or Excel files that the user is composing.
The worm also connects to an IRC server to receive remote commands, blocks antivirus software, uses a rootkit technique to hide its files and processes and automatically copies itself onto USB drives to spread.
So, this is another warning and reminder on how important it is to keep one's system armed with the latest security software programs and operating system updated with the latest fixes.

I wanted to confirm your claim about this JPEG image containing a virus but I am afraid that my computer might just probably gets infected as I think that I have poor Anti-Virus software. Anyway, it's nice knowing that such malicious virus can be contained on a simple image this days.

hi that is very informative of you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this virus it is very helpful to us so that we could prevent it from entering our computer. I have a NOD32 antivirus here in my computer I hope it can filter that virus.... if not would be a great disaster for us because I don't want to format my computer again.....

Thank you for sharing your findings about such malicious virus. I tried to login on my Yahoo messenger account early this morning and it seems that my anti-virus failed to identify your claim but probably my Anti-Virus software might be weak since I'm just using it's free version.

Just have a great anti-virus like BitDefender it has its own firewall which blocks all kinds of virus whether it comes from the net or from a usb port..
And of course don't forget to update it everyday so it can detect new virus..
