I would appreciate if persons suffering from this condition explain in simple manner what does Myalgic Encephalomyelitis consist of. I know how to do a research online. Don't call me lazy but right now I am not in the mood of trying to read a lot of medical jargon. I would prefer someone whom can explain Myalgic Encephalomyelitis sufferers what they do go through. All that I know is that Myalgic Encephalomyelitis leaves you fatigued and in a lot of pain. So what does Myalgic Encephalomyelitis means for you?

I was diagnosed with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E. for short) around 25 years ago. It is a shocking condition which at that time, my doctor practically denied it existed! It was called Yuppie Flu here in the UK for a while, which wasn't a very pleasant term for it. I went from being a very active and energetic person to a person who felt not just tired all the time but absolutely exhausted. I had constant pain in nearly every joint in my body and woke up nearly every day with a headache. Blood test after blood test revealed nothing at all, then I a client of mine (I am a psychotherapist) introduced me to an nutritionist, who was also an allergy speicialist and retired medical doctor. He quickly said that I had M.E. after a variety of tests and put me a strict exclusion diet to discovere what foods were making it worse. He was convinced that food plays a big part. I never was very stressed as I have always practiced meditation. What I discovered on the diet was the any food that contained sugar were really making me ill and also I had a problem with potatoes products and others in that food family. It took about 3 months and I was feeling like a different person again and soon got over my addiction to sugar products. I understand that M.E. will never leave me, but I manage it with diet and meditation now. I do get some bad days and I think I have gone back to the old days, but thankfully, they only last a day or two and I am back feeling normal again. But I stay very strict with my sugar-free diet as I know that sugar will play havoc with my health again. _Derek

Hi derek_a, Thanks for sharing your personal experience. I am glad to hear that your diet is helping to control the pain, fatigue associated with M.E and Fibromyalgia. Can you resort back to your normal activity or things have to be done slowly?

Thank you for responding. Quite often I can do physical tasks as I used to be able to do them, but there are still some bad days when I feel too exhausted to stand up from my chair. There is no other answer on the bad days other than to rest, but the problem is that it usually falls on a day when I have things that I really need to be getting on with. Sometimes I can just give in and sit down and sleep a lot, but there are times when I can't help myself but try to shrug it all off and get on with things, and then I can make myself much worse. It is a slow lesson to learn and I always get thoughts that I can beat it, because I tend to be a generally optimistic person. _Derek

ME is another term for fibromyalgia. There are tons of symptoms to fibromyalgia including chronic pain and chronic fatigue. I have been living with this illness for 14 years. I have written a lot of responses on myLot regarding fibromyalgia. Instead of repeating myself, you could do a search in myLot discussions on fibromyalgia. You can also take a look at the articles I wrote: http://healthmad.com/conditions-and-diseases/fibromyalgia-helping-you-cope/ http://healthmad.com/health/six-ways-to-fight-fatigue/ http://healthmad.com/conditions-and-diseases/fibromyalgia-hypoglycaemia-and-diet/ Your question is timely. Today is National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day. A good time to bring this nuisance illness to light. So many people don't believe you when you say you are ill when you have this illness. There are a lot of doctors who will say it is "all in your head". Find a doctor who believes in the illness. I would never call you lazy. I sometimes think of myself as lazy but when I push myself I pay for it. I have learned to manage my illness by knowing my limitations and pacing myself. I hope you will take the time to read my articles and any other discussions I have responded to on fibromyalgia. Good luck to you, my friend.

Hi patgalca... Thanks for sharing these links which I will read afterwards. Up till a week ago I was totally ignorant of M.E and Fibromyalgia. I did not know that it actually existed. I thought people might be exaggerating and playing for sympathy. It does not seems to be the case as you have clearly illustrated. Thanks for sharing.

I am not one hundred percent sure but suspect that it may have something to do with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I found this link: http://www.ahmf.org/infosheet.htm I hope it contains some information that will enlighten you. A colleague of mine had Chronic Fatigue and had to lie down every hour or so because he didn’t have the energy to go on. I don’t know what caused it and whether he still has it as I haven’t seen him for about ten years.

Your article posted here is very relevant. I must admit that I was ignorant of M.E and Fibromyalgia up till a week ago when I met the first online friend that admitted of having this condition. I did not knew anything about it at all. Thanks for sharing.
