I am a tanning salon patron. I dont use them everyday but I do frequent them throughout the winter, more so beginning of spring. I dont think pale is attractive. I think having a LITTLE bit of color so you look okay in capris or shorts isnt bad. However, I do think the people that go everyday all year round then tan outside are going way too far. I dont worry too much about health issues because I go maybe twicw a week. After i get a base tan which takes 3-4 days to obtain. I have a friend who has been tanning almost daily for years. Her skin is like leather! It's disgusting. She thinks she looks great. NOT! She looks like the neighbor in the movie" SOMETHING ABOUT MARY" lol. What's your view on tanning? dl

Ok so dont rub it in that you were born with beautiful brown skin. You are very lucky to have been so blessed. Unfortunately I have to pay for it. You must look at people who lay out in the sun or tan as if they are nuts.lol. Happy MyLotting my friend. dl

I don't use tanning salons anymore. I used to but not since I found out about tanning towelettes. They much more convenient and less expensive. You just luffa and then put them on like lotion. It is amazing to watch the tanning take place and with just afew rules to remember it works fine.

i'd rather use the spray tan.
it's safer for one thing.
anybody i knew that tanned every day whether booth or sun,tho they're the same age as me,now looks WAY older.and they do look like old leather.
i'd never tell them as much, but all i can think when i see them is DAMN.

Its true! I have a friend that I grew up with and her skin is like leather. Brown old leather. I like tanning but I only do it for about two weeks. At the beginning of spring. As much as I would like to continue, I dont for the reasons YOU have stated. Spray tan is safer. I just dont like the orange. you are right though. dl

I've personally never been one to go to the tanning salon. However, my aunt has a bed in her house and I've used that from time to time. The reason that I won't get a package at a salon is because it is money that I could better spend else where. However, I would like to be able to go once or maybe twice a week so that I could have some color on my skin. Both of my children are of Native American descent and have very dark skin. I don't think I look anything like them except during the summer when I have color as their skin stays tanned (yes, we have swimsuit lines) year round after they tan during the summer and their natural skin color is much darker than mine (I have Irish fair skin and lots of freckles).

I wish my sister had one. You're right about the money issue. I do know that it could be spent elsewhere but its my little gift to my self. I,too, have inter racial children and know exactly what you're talking about. However I dont have tan lines. lol dl

Hello Dlovely!.
I have never tanning my skin because I born with it. Its make me wondering sometimes many of my fellow Indonesian try to get more white skin using so many whitening cream and make whitening skin a big industry.
In other hand in other part of the world so many woman try to make their skin darker. Hhonestly it make me confuse....

Nope, I have never done that. Never understood how someone could lay in one of them things. I wouldn't have the patience for it. I wouldn't spend the money on it and I can't stand heat. In the summer me and heat don't get along I would move to Alaska for the summer or Canada just to get away from 85+ weather!!!

I have never tanned. I can't afford it, but really it isn't my thing. I've got very pale skin, and I always get compliments on it. I don't really like having pale legs all that much, but then again, I don't think I look too weird. My legs are darker than my face, although not by much. hee hee My sister used to tan a lot. She never would wear sunscreen, she would just burn out in the sun, saying she got a better tan that way. I told her she would get skin cancer one day. I hope she doesn't. But I have also seen the leather faces you're talking about! It is scary! I wonder if they realize what they really look like. I mean, is someone telling them this is attractive? Does a boyfriend, parent, or friend not clue them in?

Look at George Hamilton. They say he has a tanning bed in his home. His skin is leather! NO DOUBT! I saw and old friend that I hadnt seen in ten years. Last time I saw her she was tanning. From the looks of her skin and the coloring, she's still going. How she think she looks good I havent the slightest Idea. She looks horrid. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Her beholder must be blind. lol Happy MyLotting dl

Im sorry to hear about your dad Jill! Those types of cancer can be hereditary. Its probably best to stay away. They do have the new spray tans. Kind of like the tan in a bottle that used to make our hands orange. This one is different. Its come a long way since those days. Now its administered by a machine that makes it much more even than we could. I havent tried it but I know alot of people that do and they say its ok. good luck dl

I am fair by nature and am not into tanned skin. I have friends who into the tanned look and they visit the tanning salon quite frequently (once a week or once every 2 weeks). Tanning everyday is really extreme and I can imagine how 'tanned' she is.
I think tanning in a salon is better than tanning in the outdoors. The UV rays from the Sun can be really bad for the skin..

I dont mind going tanning a couple days a week but I know some people that go almost every day as well. I find that its killing you're skin when you use the tanning beds every day. Plus it increases the risk of oyu to get cancer by using the tanning beds frequently. I haven't tanned in so long I usually go in the winter time so I have a tan and ready for summer.

Those types of people are called TANOREXICS. I know a few of them myself. I start tanning same as you. Winter for summer. Not too much just a base. Just like with everything else, people tend to over do it. I tend to stay away from that. I make sure I am in control of my tanning. The minute I think that's its too much. I stop. END Thanks for sharing Happy MyLotting dl.

I've never really thought too much about it really until I went on holiday last year and came back with a fantastic tan. Didn't realize just how much difference it makes you feel when your just that little bit darker. Suddenly your body seems much more slender and toned.
They used to provide tanning booths at my gym too but the council did away with them deeming them unhealthy because of the cancer risks. However this year i've booked another holiday somewhere hot and as long as I plaster on the sum cream and come back with a gorgeous tan i'll be a very happy bunny.

Thats how I came upon it. I noticed I was really, really, pale. I went with my boss to the salon and fell in love. Its really affordable where I go which makes it much better. I do have friends that I now call them Tanorexics because they arent tan. They are leathered. Its way over for them yet they still go. I just go for four or five days straight. Get the base tan. Then maintain once a week. I get so many compliments. I see you picture and your hair and eyes must pop when you're tan. You look like you could be tan in the pic are you? If not you have great coloring to begin with. I hope you have a wonderful time on your next trip to paradise. Happy Tanning dl

Nope never have and never will. Think its daft lying on a bed with a strip lamp changing your colour. I wouldnt be able to keep still for long enough id be bored plus id find it way to clotraphobic. I also think its normal to see people pale in winter and tanned in the summer people walking around in the middle of snow with bright tans i just think look daft.

What you're doing is great for your health and skin. Sunscreen is a great idea. They had this show on television about weird addictions. This girl had a tanning addiction. She literally tanned twice a day. She had bleached blond hair with brown like a crayon color skin. She looked awful. I only do it for one full week and then once every two weeks. I am not doing it anymore now. Thanks for your well wishes. dl

I've never been to a tanning salon. I wouldn't need it. I don't have pale skin and even if I did...I can't be too bothered with trying to tan it:) I'm just too lazy.
In India, pale skin is preferred....most of us are dusky and it's only in the past few years that dusky is viewed as sexy. So, not sure if a tanning salon would even get business in India.

Hey dl! I have never gone to a tanning salon ever! But, I have
spent many years tanning outside in the sun risking my skin's
health and still do! I am very pale too and look much healthier
with a nice tan! I am hopefully going to take a trip to Florida
to see my Mom and that's where I get my best tans! I spend alot
of time in the water, because I love to swim and it's so hot
there at this time of year that you can't just sit in the sun!
I'm sure when I go to my Dermatologist he won't be too pleased!
