A $3.99 charge for Facebook?

I reviewed discussions here and dont' see anything, so I ask...anyone heard anything about Facebook to start charging $3.99 a month to use it, come July? I saw it on a persons page and there was what appeared to be a letter to sign contesting it, but since I am not to Facebook orientated I didn't know if it was spam or just a prank or something so I didn't go any farther. But at the same time, this person isn't a flake to start stuff like that. I know him from high school but there isn't much communication between us..not to say that makes him honest or anything, but I'd rather hear it from someone else. I would venture to say that if htis were the case...it'd be in the media all over the place and I haven't heard a word about it.
Anyone know?

Facebook is not going to charge you anything for their service. Don't worry about it. I have seen these too. It's just some bored people trying to get people to join their silly group. It is not true.

I think it is just a rumor and hence need not give much importance to this. Facebook has more than 400 million members. The site does not need to charge this fees, that is my opinion. Let us see...

But with that many members hooked... that is when they usually start to charge. I mean..I was doing Ebay for awhile there...but then they raised prices for the "little guys" and those with no store and most couldn't afford it and dropped their account. There are so many hooked on Facebook and all its games and such..and for ONLY $3.99 a month...I don't think they'd loose enough to make a difference to themselves. Seldom does a "big guy" need the fees, but no one does anything for free unless they have no other alternative....

I don't think that they will start charging people, but I could be wrong. I know that if they do start charging people, I will certainly quit. There are plenty of social networking sites out there that are free.

I don't care either, but like Ebay did while back when they raised the prices on the "little guy" and no store sellers... many left and several new free selling sites cropped up. There are jut to many free sites out there to pay that. Even if it is JUST $3.99

hiii there coffeebreak
I havent see anything like that and i havent got any official email from facebook saying something like this.I dont think so they will charge people as there is stiff competition in social networking websites. If facebook start charging people ,people will simply shift to other websites which are offering service for free.

Yeah, could be. I figure if they are going to do it, they might send out notifications come June or there abouts. But people will shift and others figure, "its only $3.99" So are rather hooked on the games!

There is yet another person who is into such a campaign. I have not joined the campaign but from the look of it it seems possible. After all Face Book is bringing people together from all over the world. People who were never in our life we see them there - something that needs to be recognised.

Well look at it this way...people are literally addicted to FB...many of this discussion are. And FB says 'pay only a mear $3.99 a month and keep what you have." I doubt many that are that addictd to it will go elsewhere over a mear $3.99! That's a form of entertainment and for just that...it is worth it, they'll say. It will be worth it to "keep in contact" with everyone.

i heard about that before, like they're planning to start charging users of facebook though i dont know if they will implement it or not. i seldom use facebook now as i rather want to be busy here in mylot than play facebook without earnings any from them. if in case they will start charging im sure other members will left though for those who got addicted to it will going to grab that for sure.

I have never seen this on facebook and I spend a lot of time on there.
This is just another silly person! The person you know may well just be reporting what he has heard, so its not him starting it, maybe.
It would be kind of pointless for them to charge 3.99, so many people would leave.
Yes, most of us are on here for the social and discussion aspect as well as the payout, but when you have to post a couple of hundred posts to make a couple of dollars on here, why would they charge more than that? They would just lose loads of people, it wouldn't be worth it for those who are trying to make a little extra money on here, it would cancel it out.
So I doubt very much if this would happen.

Yeah ,there are so many options out there. Facebook didn't get big over night...just more cause it was the most widely known about. But people don't like to pay for what they can get for free...just pass the word to others and they'll follow!

What I heard about facebook is they are sharing our profile and information to a third party and to other websites. They are sharing it automatically without our consent, and that facebook is making money by selling users information. I read from an article that Facebook said "these new products and features are designed to enhance personalization and promote social activity..."
You can check the website at http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/money/facebook-to-share-your-info-for-money-april-27-20101272464814471

I heard something about that. OR something similar. But then Facebook said themselves on a note sent to all that they don't do this...but then again..its all in the way the words are used and taken. But if they have already sold current users information, they might not be able to sell it again, so there goes their stream of money. Now they have to come up with something else to make the money. And with so many members and the threat of some leaving... they make the monthly fee very low so most will stay that use it regularly, I mean it is ONLY $3.99 a month!

I don't believe nothing till I see it in writing!
I dont' do that much on Facebook anyway so I don't really care. My daughter does and I was just keeping up on the skuttlebutt. But this was a poll thing that you could participate in which is why I thought it might have some validity...who'd bother with a poll if it was for no reason?
And I am sure they aren't going to give to much notification of a charge.. they don't want members to have to much time to make alternate arrangements!

Dude i am 24 hours on on facebook. I never heard such things. I think it might be a false humor spreading all over. Also my friends never said such things to me still now. If you are really sure then would please message me the link where you got this information. I think this is 99.99% Fake.

Just out of curiosity...what in the world do you do on FB 24 a day? And just to clarify..it wasn't a notice or anything like that .. it was a poll someone had to other to sign to send to FB to not start charging. That's why I wondered...why start a poll/survey and deal with all that if it wasn't an issue? Why not just send spam to everyone and be done with it. Just observation. i don't raelly care as I am not addicted at all to FB!

I don't think any social networking sites should charge any fees for visiting them. It takes the pleasure away when you are forced payment for participation.

That's not true because I never heard such kind of rumors like that and I think its impossible to implement because they will loose patronizers if they do that and as far as I know facebook can generate thousands of dollars everyday even if they don't charge us. If you have the link source regarding that rumor can you kindly post it so we would know thanks and regards.
