Hi Is it possible for you to complete a job or project within the targets set by you or your family ? I do not mean the projects or work in the office or business places- I am talking about those at home - like for example a make-over/painting or even renovation or new furniture by self or carpenter etc. I have yet to come across a single event when this got completed in time set in advance; most of the time the work/project is started and then additions go on!!! Like last year when my wife went to my daughter's place overseas for 6 months to assist her after her second delivery( the elder daughter was only 3 years old, hence she needed to be there), I thought this was a good time to get the house painted, renovated ( mainly the kitchen) and the living room) and even get the new electric wiring etc done plus that would mean a pleasant surprise for my wife as she always wanted those nut we could not get the time and money- now all this was there so I thought that this would be ideal as well as a great surprise for her. But I had calculated a maximum of 2 months to include first the renovation of the living room, kitchen & bathrooms which included making new furniture, breaking /making new walls & then removing the old windows and adding bigger & latest sliding windows, then followed by changing the floor tiles, again followed by new electrical wiring and switches etc and lastly getting the painting done for the whole apartment. And after taking all time and money estimates I was given the time of 2 & 1/2 months at the most as lot of jobs would be done side by side; but actually the whole thing got completed finally in almost 4 months - but done well so I do not complain except the time spent and the best part of it all was that when my wife returned she was really very happy on seeing everything done as per what she was always wanting; and she still, tells every one about it!! And I think that is because I did not tell her at that time that these jobs were being carried out at home in her absence!! So thats it - any experience of a delayed project and the consequences any of you had??

Hi friend let me share my experience I retired in 2006 april, the renovation work of our paternal home was supposed to be over in one year, but there are so many official formalities, this took 6 months, the work started, i gave this on contract, but this man left in the middle after taking advances every week, i employed masons, labors, they used to remain absent mostly, it took three years to complete, there are pending works even now.. Thanks for sharing. God bless you. Cheers. Prof

Hi I know -if you give out the entire work to one person then it gets definitely delayed forever; hence I divided all this work and supervised myself everything - even going with them for materials purchase etc; and probably that is why it got completed a little outside the target- but then as the work was going on some additional changes were also taken in adding to the time not estimated.

Very kind and considerate of you to have done these things for your wife.as for these projects I know from prior experience that any construction or carpenter's work , always gets stretched beyond target time.

hi any project done by outside laborers will always take about twice as long as you think it will but hopefully if you hired good people you will be happy with the results. You were a very nice 'husband to do all that for your wife and make it a really great 'surprise for her,no wonder she will brag about it to everyone.
